Hindu Symbols on Clothing

Dear Sri Justin,

Usually I let more learned friends to respond to your good questions about Hinduism. Since no one seems to have answered this and as I happen to have an answer thought out, let me blabber here!

Hindu symbols of Gods become 'holy' only when they are consecrated. Thus a stone can become holy while a picture of a god on a note book or a calendar (a usual practice in India) are thrown in to garbage.

Feel free to wear a T shirt with an image of any idol as you wish. In our religion, we don't send people to gallows for any 'insult' to a God. After all they exist to serve us; not the other way around.

Regards,
KRS

Namaste all,

I have seen various web stores selling AUM symbols and our Gods and Goddesses on t-shirts. Is this acceptable? Is it okay to purchase them and wear them? I'm only talking about t-shirts, I know underwear (horrible, I know) is definitely unacceptable. Thanks.

Regards,

Justin
