A lot of you, especially friends who live in India, may have heard a charity called 'Amar Seva Samgam' located in Ayikudy in Tamil Nadu. Here is the link.
Handi Care International - We Can Make a Difference
While I will let you read the history and current work done by this charity, as background, this was an organization which was founded by two educated men in 1981, both disabled, one Mr. Ramakrishnan, a Quadriplegic and a Mr. Sankara Raman with Muscular Dystrophy. It was an organization founded by two disabled men for disabled with an obscure beginning and in the span of 30 years with a lot of effort by many individuals, private donations and government support, it has now grown to be a a very worthwhile charity helping many handicapped children.
We have a Toronto drama troupe called 'Agraharam Productions' which actively conducts shows periodically to raise money for different charities. This year, as we have done in the past, we are again staging a Tamil play on August 27th, 2011 to raise funds for this wonderful cause. It is sponsored by Handicare International whose founder in Toronto is a sister of one of the original founders of Amar Seva Sangam. We are very proud to be able to assist in this wonderful cause, those of you who is in Toronto, please make time to participate in this event. We seek your kind donations, you can contact those names indicated on the flyer to donate directly.
By the way, yours truly, will be acting in a major role in the play!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
