the one exception is my dentist. he has the latest and the previous 4 issues of time, economist, national geographic and a few canadian magazines. always a delight to wait...

the doctor's office is part of a hospital and survives on donated magazines. hospitals are always short of money for such stuff here in toronto.
 
In my experience, (in the US), the doctors/clinics nowadays save money by not having clinic magazine subscriptions. Instead, the doctors/staff themselves may have their own personal subscriptions which after reading, they deposit in the clinic waiting rooms. You can see that they have cut out the name/address label on the front page.

That explains why the magazines are a bit old. In fact I may have also "donated" a magazine or two in this manner.
