In one ghat -dasashwamedha ghat , ganga aarathi is done every tuesday and special occassions.
Today Japanese PM Abe and N.Modi our PM participated in the colourful aarathi ceremony.
This ceremony staring with puja , followed with aarathi ceremony was televised live on many channels.
This was begun in 1991 and in first years was only twice a year . Now it is done throughout the year.

According to legend, brahma sacrificed ten horses to perform Dasa ashwamedha yagna here.
The colours, sound of bells, conch being blown and recitation of prayers to ganga was enchanting .
So was the the lighting and decked up stage and priests holding up the lighted lamps .
Well dressed ,decked up ladies in traditional attire added to the grandeur of the ceremony.
