The cash subsidy to be paid to users will be equivalent to the difference between current PDS price of about Rs 12 and market rate of Rs 43 per litre.

The move will help curtail subsidy outgo for kerosene, which in 2014-15 was about Rs 24,799 crore.

"Several state governments have come forward to implement direct benefit transfer (DBT) in kerosene in selected districts," an official statement said.

The scheme will be rolled out from April 1 in Raipur, Durg and Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh, Panipat and Panchkula in Haryana, Shimla, Solan and Una in Himachal Pradesh, Chhatra, Giridih, East Singbhum, Hazaribagh, Jamtara and Khunti in Jharkhand.

Besides, the scheme will be implemented in Hoshangabad, Harda, Khandwa and Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh, Amaravati and Latur in Maharashtra, Taran Taran, Pathankot and Mohali in Punjab and Pali, Jhunjhunu and Kota in Rajasthan.

"Where such transfer is introduced, the consumer will pay the un-subsidised price of kerosene at the time of purchase. Subsequently, the amount of subsidy will be directly transferred to the bank account of the beneficiary.

"To avoid any inconvenience to the beneficiary through payment of un-subsidised price, subsidy shall be credited to eligible beneficiaries in advance during the initial purchase," it said.

will the govt cash free advance to pay for the kerosene the full amount upfront to receive subsidy.

does the govt expect daily wage earners to shell out rs 43 to get one litre of subsidised kerosene. at rs 11.

a most fool hardy move with no sense of slum economics.

reminds me of french queen who wanted peiople to have cakes when they had no bread.

meaningless application of technology to more save misdirected subsidy than help the poor.

more and more convinced that it is not a govt for the poor.

Members who cannot digest laudable things happening around can only shout like this.

This scheme was aimed at to eradicate corruption and leakage of subsidy.

Direct transfer of subsidy to the beneficiaries Bank Account is a good move.

Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) is to ensure that only genuine beneficiaries get the benefit of subsidy while preventing illicit diversion as there is evidence that some part of the kerosene allocation is diverted for non-eligible purposes.

Such loud noise should have been made while allotments were made under Coalgate scam and licenses were issued under 2G scam.

Most keep watching while the politicians mint money in thousands of crore and shout when laudable schemes are introduced to help the poor/real needy.

Such shouting middle class have no other go except to shout.lol

In the scenario that all subsidies are outweighed with vote banks, total abolition of subsidy could not be done all of a sudden.
To ensure the total quantum of subsidy flow in the right direction crediting subsidy into bank accounts is a welcome process.
This shall curtail the seepage of subsidised goods through ineligible channels and misappropriation in this area.
The process of linking the unique identification through Aadhaar cards to all bank accounts in future, would plug the loopholes further.

All subsidies should be withdrawn, instead Government should consider reducing taxes on the essentials like food and fuel. They should allow these items to be sold on affordable prices in markets.

I read a couple of days back that in the recent council poll held at Bangaluru there were abundance of allurements offered like smart phones, tablets, costly Kancheepuram Silk Sarees besides cash. While local body election attracts this much of attention .........

In the suburban areas of Chennai, yesterday, a mixi, a grinder and a fan were distributed to all the green card holders.
( green card ? .....eligible for free rice) It is the token advance from Amma, for ensuing election.
