Fighting against bribery and liquor

Chennai: Satta Panchayat Iyakkam (SPI), under its president Siva Elango has been fighting against corruption and TASMAC outlets for the benefit of the people for the past one year.

The NGO is in news frequently for their protests to close liquor shops that cause menace to public. It also solves problems of the people everyday and aims for transparency.

SPI is creating awareness among people about democracy and rules of the law, making them perform their social duties and to voice out for their right.

'Getting involved in field work and creating awareness programmes to enable the formation of a good governance is what we do. Development and progress among the people will start only if the officials understand the importance of anti corruption and liquor prohibition. Gandhian activist Sasi Perumal has been staging protests in many parts of the country to ban liquor sales.

Two months before he staged a protest in Jantar Mantar, Delhi, where large number of people turned out to support him', says Siva Elango, president of SPI.

The NGO has call centres where they attend to complaints and queries of the public from 9 am to 5 pm and solves them as soon as possible. They also conduct camps every Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm, where they interact with people to know about various issues that needs to be solved.
