I am preparing the costume for my daughter's monologue contest as goddess Mahalakshmi and was pretty excited about my finds and their outcome that I thought of sharing it with you. It may be useful for you too, especially with little children and grandchildren!

I made all these costume jewels out of Cork which is very bendy and thus easy to use for costumes.

I stuck regular golden colored paper and some adhesive backed stones from the market to decorate them.

1. Crown: Made of Cork cut out in the shape of a crown (front alone). To make it wearable and fit snug on the head, I attached it to a plastic tiara. The tiara's 2 ends were fastened to the elastic portion of a headband using 'duct tape'. Finally I attached the tiara to the crown using 'Velcro'. Since cork bends easily, the crown bends slightly curved which gives it a 3D effect!

2. Haaram: This is the best! When I went to the 5-Below store (everything here is $5 or below mostly), I found a $3 iPhone carrier - iPhone Bling Lanyard. I at first thought I will use it as such but then it looked little skinny and somewhat like the badge carrier that people wear arround their neck. So suddenly it occured to me, why not decorate it? So then I cut out petal shaped golden paper and attached it to petal by petal to either sides of the lanyard and then one to the pendant portion. Decked it with stones. This looks the coolest!

3. Cork belt (oddiyanam), Vangi: As I already said, Cork gave a beautiful curve to them and worked out well for these jewels!

Check out the pics!
