Expected soon: No tollgate taxes for cars & buses at toll-gates!
The central government has decided to withdraw the toll gate charges currently being charged at toll-gates throughout the country.
After the completion of the quadrilateral highways in the country, all vehicles – buses, cars, jeeps, vans, and other commercial vehicles – are charged to pay toll-gate taxes.
However, there have been several complaints that many toll-gate stations do not maintain the road properly while asking for additional charges.
Even the local public residing nearby the area of toll-gates are compelled to pay the toll-gate charges.
A recent survey conducted by the National Highway Board has indicated that only 14% of the toll-gate collection goes to the credit of the central government.
As a measure to alleviate these problems, the Ministry of Transport, headed by Mr. Nitin Gadkari, has decided to withdraw the toll-gate charges. It has made a recommendation to the Prime Minister’s office.
Hence, the toll-gate charges on cars, jeeps, etc will be removed outright. Only commercial vehicles will have to pay toll-gate charges.
This measure is estimated to cause a Rs. 26000 Crores to the central government.
In order to compensate for this loss, it is proposed to increase the taxes on petrol & diesel by Rs. 1/- per litre and also by imposing an additional 2% tax during purchase of new vehicles.
Vehicles can make a one-time payment of Rs. 100/- to use tollgates.
This will fetch Rs. 32,609 Crores for the central government in the years 2014-19.

புதுடில்லி : நாடு முழுவதும் தேசிய நெடுஞ்சாலைகளில் உள்ள 125 டோல்கேட்டுகளை மூட மத்திய அரசு முடிவு செய்துள்ளதாக மத்திய நெடுஞ்சாலை போக்குவரத்து துறை அமைச்சர் நிதின் கட்காரி தெரிவித்துள்ளார். இவற்றில் ஏற்கனவே 61 டோல்கேட்கள் மூடப்பட்டுள்ளதாக தெரிவித்துள்ள அவர், இனி பயணிகள் மற்றும் வணிக பயன்பாடு அல்லாத வாகனங்களுக்கான டோல்கேட் கட்டணங்களை ரத்து செய்வது குறித்து மத்திய அரசு ஆலோசித்து வருவதாக தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.
மேலும் டோல்கேட்களில் வாகனங்கள் அதிக நேரம் காத்திருப்பதையும், போக்குவரத்து நெரிசல் ஏற்படுவதையும் தவிர்ப்பதற்காக அனைத்து டோல்கேட்களையும் மூடிவிட்டு இ-டோல் முறையை அறிமுகம் செய்யவும் திட்டமிட்டு வருவதாக அவர் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.
