Enter FMCG war: Baba Ramdev vs Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

The runaway success of Patanjali in consumer goods space is fuelling heightened expectations from another reputed saint in the country who propagates the Art of Living. Spiritual guru Ravi Shankar's Sri Sri Ayurveda is keen on expanding footprint in fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) segment by leveraging the loyalty of millions of followers spread across the globe. The Art of Living trust has upped the ante against some of the existing etablished FMCG names, both domestic and international, by launching an advertisement blitzkreig as it gathers inspiration from the success of Baba Ramdev-mentored Patanjali which plans to clock Rs 10000 crore turnover by 2020. Market brokerage firm Edelweiss believes the entry of Art of Living to be a headache for popular brands like Hindustan Unilever, Dabur, Procter and Gamble (P&G), Emami, Godrej Consumer, who have been spending agressively on advertisements and R&D to stay strong in the market. Its latest note, Edelweiss said that going by this "renewed aggression" across mass-media platforms, Sri Sri is going the Patanjali way, and has plans to open 2500 stores pan-India by 2017. "Sri Sri Ayurveda is planning to expand its presence in breakfast cereals, cookies, atta, oils, spices, ready-to-cook items and a range of organic staples for select markets," Edelweiss said in the note. As of now, Sri Sri Ayurveda was marketing its FMCG goods and spiritual category of products at select franchise stores besides promoting them at the large events headed by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. However, at the recently concluded World Culture Festival on the flood plains of River Yamuna, Future Group chairman Kishore Biyani expressed his willingness to showcase Sri Sri Ayurveda's goods at his Big Bazar stores spread across the country. Future Group starting from last year had been showcasing Patanjali's products at its Big Bazar stores under per a joint partnership. Market analysts agree that while Baba Ramdev's Patanjali holds the first-mover advantage in the sector among the duo, however they also feel Sri Sri Ravi Shankar with a follower base of 370 million globally can pose a significant challenge to the established names.

I purchased some products from a recently opened branch of patanjali. They are very good and pure and cheap. I also saw a lot of interest and crowd at the shop and goods vanishing very fast. As long as they are good, original, and cheap and available people will definitely go for them.

Why shocking...Yoga and Health go hand in hand...Why not capitalize/commercialize that...It will give MNC's a run for money..Good going..Looks like Isha foundation is also joining the race!
