I actually have been Hindu for years now. I have "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Hinduism" by Linda Johnsen and "Essentials of Hinduism" by Swami Bhaskarananda. I also have books on scripture. I actually recommend those two books for new Hindus.

Over the years I have read a lot of books on Sanatana Dharma and those are the best two I've come across. Thank you for your suggestion, however. :)
