Education: Complete Modules of Knowledge Traditions and Practices of India

CBSE has introduced a new optional subject for class XI students this year. I twill be continued for class XII students next year. I believe, for the first time, our ancient subjects are getting some attention is schools'. The course has 10 (?) modules. Good beginning. Let us hope at least a section of the coming generation get a decent exposure to our glorious inheritance.

"The newly introduced course titled “Knowledge Traditions and Practices of
India” for class XI students, has received an overwhelming response from the educationists and the teaching community all over India. Introduced as a pilot, it aims to engage students with a sense of exploration and discovery at the same time highlighting the concepts and major achievements in various disciplines of knowledge."

Module 1: Astronomy in India
Module 2: Chemistry in India
Module 3: Indian literature
Module 4: Indian philosophical systems
Module 5: Indian traditional knowledge on environmental conservation
Module 6: Life sciences; The historical evolution of medical tradition in ancient india
Module 7: Mathematics in india
Module 8: Metallurgy in india
Module 9: Music in india
Module 10: Theater and drama in india

Comprehensin questions:
1. Discuss what is meant by the following words:
a. Darśana
b. Philosophy
c. Puruṣārtha
d. Mokṣa.

2. a) Elaborate: Indian philosophical systems have been classified as
Āstika — accepting śrutis (the Vedas)
Nāstika

8. Mīmāṁsā Darśana
The Mīmāṁsā system as described in Mīmāṁsāsūtra (1.1-4) and Mīmāṁsāparibhāṣā:
1. Now is the enquiry into the nature of duty (dharma).
2. The duty is an object distinguished by a command.
3. The examination of its cause.
4. The perception is the knowledge which one has by the senses coming in contact with the soul. It is not the cause of duty by reason of acquiring knowledge of the thing existing.

Wow this is great!

Why don't they make Sanskrit a compulsory subject for better understanding of all of the above.

Language issue is very sensitive in India especially when you make any language compulsory . Tamil Nadu was on the verge of getting split from Indian Union when Hindi was made compulsory here . That led to the emergence of Dravidian Parties here in TN and from then onwards they have been only ruling here .
Imposition of Compulsory Sanskrit is seen as an act of Brahmin'ical conspiracy here ,however the noble intentions it may be started with .Sometimes here even Samskrit Bharati classes/ Hindi Prachar classes were stormed by Dravidian Party thugs protesting the same .So we need to be careful in this issue .
We need to take the modern technology tools to make Sanskrit easy to access and easy to learn for everyone and while lot of work is being done in this respect ,the sad part is only elder people come to learn Sanskrit while younger people find more value in learning French etc .
