Darasuram Airavatesvara Temple Lord Shiva Photo

Dear Mr.Praveen,
correct me if am wrong. I have heard that the residing deity in any temple should not be photographed as they might loose their cosmic energy. This is the rewason why no photographing is allowed in any temple in Kerala and in places like tirupati photography is strictly prohibited. People even say that electric bulbs should also be removed from the inner sanctuary of the temple. Kindly clarify.

Ok. i have no idea about that. But i am sure other members can help clarify that.
I had gone with a tour guide and initially we were not allowed to take photos as there was one devotee. But after they left the main priest asked us to take a photo. And this is what i have posted.
Infact the guide told that us as this particular Devasuram temple is not at all maintained sometimes the priests charge money as well (only to foreigners).
This temple was built by the son of King Raja Raja Chola who built the main Thanjavur Brihadeeswarar Temple. But due to lack of maintenance by the Govt and lack of any tourists, 50% of the temple is in ruins and is in a dilapidated condition. So the priests allow for the main deity to be photographed for additional income.

Unless prohibited, it is perfectly legal to photograph anything in public.
What kind of logic are you trying
Does God loose his energy? What kind of God do you have? Every temple promotes its site by presenting its official photograph, they do not want others to take their own pictures.

there is nothing wrong to take photo of karpa graham .when many devotees can see the moolavar,why not view through camara lens.in olden days even taking photo of our baby were restricted on belief the life span will reduce.now even the new born baby is photographed .many are taking silently the pic. of residing deity.

. Dear Mr.Prasad, Good Morning.
It is not my god or somebody else's. My god is inside me. What i had written is what i witnessed in Kerala, Tirupathi, and other places, and the reason given by them. Also i asked for a clarification whether what i have been hearing is correct or false. If is false i will accept what the members have to say, and change my view point. BTW the official pictures posted on the temple books, what ever i have seen is also drawn by some body and not the moolavar photographs.

Usually Garbha Griha is an area where no photographs are allowed but when I visited Tanjore ,I found many people clicking Photos in Darasuram and Ganagi Konda Cholapuram with their cell phones as there was less scrutiny of the same .In Brahadeeshwar Temple the rules are bit stiff but yet I found some people secretly clicking pics with their cell phones .
Anyway my take on this is : ask before clicking pics and if they say No then do not click it ,if they are Ok with it then no problem .

i have some experiences....in USA ...there is a museum....i saw a beautiful vinayaka statue in museum.....i took photograph....
in the same town ...there is a beautiful vinayaka temple....the photography not allowed.....they say before pranapatishta...
photography is allowed....after pranapathishtha photography not allowed....anyway nice photo is Lord shiva..thank u praveen ji..

Whoever objects photographing the presiding deity, on seeing Lord Shiva I am moved with tears. Thanks for posting this. I pray to Lord Shiva to give me an opportunity to visit him at Darasuram.

You are absolutely correct. One is not supposed to take photograph of the Deity or the
God at the Sanctum. Further, the temple premises is observed as an extremly
holy place and hence has to be viewed with the utmost respect and regards
and not to be treated as a tourist spot. In some Temples like Meenakshi Amman,
Guruvayurappan, etc, one is not allowed to take the Camera as well as mobile phones
inside the temples.
