I read this news today in The Times of India and felt miserable. Please read and give your feed-back:

.....The four month old Baby Ganesh Kamble , had been put to sleep by his mother Ambava at their grimy hut in the Sanjay Gandhi Nagar slums of Ulhasnagar West, Mumbai. "Suddenly our baby began screaming. I woke up thinking he was hungry. I woke my wife and told her to give Ganesh a feed. She did. The baby drank the milk and both my wife and I went back to sleep", the father Machindra said. Hours after he nodded off something bit him and he sat up. When he realised it was a rat, he hit the vermin hard to shake it off. It scampered off in the darkness. He went back to sleep.

On Friday morning, when Ambava woke up, she thought her son was deep in sleep. His hands were covered and nothing seemed amiss. When Machindra woke up at 7a.m., he tried to stir the baby out of sleep, but found it limp and cold. This was when he picked Ganesh up and saw deep wounds on his left hand. A rat had gnawed away most of it. Horrified, the couple ran with the lifeless baby to the Ulhasnagar Central Hospital where the doctors declared it brought dead.

Poverty...............

A very sad case. I am sure it is not isolated either.
Instead of discussing the merits of Manu Sastra, people in in India and this site should work to solve the plight of one of these family.
But I suppose it is rather easy to Bash brahmins, manu smrithi, or Aryan invation for the poverty in India.

My heart goes out to the poor child and the parents.

How can the morons like MK, chidambaram, Marans, MM and JJ can comfortably sleep when there is so much abject poverty around?

Privately people can help only so much, but as long as we keep electing crooks, bastards and selfish creeps to power, I am so sad we are not going to stop this type of tragedy any day soon...

I agree with your outrage, but do you have choice. If you defeated these set of crooks, you will elect another fresh crook or potential crook. If you elected a non-crook that person will be totally ineffective. So if choice is between an efficient crook and an inefficient honest person who would your choice be?

Poverty...............

I can empathise this news to a degree. Once we lived in an accomadation where bandicoots frequent at night. We used to sleep on the floor. In the initial stages, those bandicoots were not used to us and would crawl all over us. We always had our son between us. It is a heart wrenching story; one we always feared.

Oh, this is so terrible !!

Let me give you my opinion on how we landed up in this mess.

India as a country was prosperous right through history. Great florishing kingdoms , most of the people were in farming/agriculture, trading across different countries etc..!.

The problem started with the independance movement (my grandfather used to tell me that the fools stopped working becos of this!). This was a massive change & a huge shift in political power. Nehru jumped in on the Gandhi bandwagon & captured political power.

Nehru caused immense damage to this country - let me explain how.

Nehru was so enamoured by the British Royalty (Mountbatten - u know what i am referring to here !!), he wanted to crown himself king !!. He could not do it since there were over 500 princely kingdoms & 1000's of very powerful landlords. So he systematically put down the princely kingdoms & the powerful landlords through land reform. So the govt split the land & re-distributed to everyone - Most of the land by the way went to politicians !!

Now all this looks great, kick out all these "so called bad people" who were treating the people badly etc.. !. u would have heard unbelievable atrocities by these people etc.. by our spin doctors.

ps: Infact the 1950 assembly ws totally dominated by the princes/landlords & they refused to pass the land reform act 3 times. Nehru then used the army to subdue them & pass this !!.

Now look at the reality what happened. while the landlords lost out, DO YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO WORKED FOR THEM. THEY LOST THEIR LIVELYHOOD, THEIR KIDS WENT INTO CRIME, PROSTITUTION ETC..

SO OVERNIGHT EVERYONE IN THIS COUNTRY WAS REDUCED TO UTTER POVERTY. WITH NO INCOME, HOW WILL THEY LIVE !!. - GOVT JOBS - NOW U KNOW WHY THERE WAS/IS SO MUCH CLAMOUR FOR THIS, THEN RESERVATIONS ETC.. STARTED.

How can the farmers produce & sell them in the market. they did not have any background on business, finance etc.. Also to produce meaningful quantities, you need hectares of land not a few acres/guntas !!

And in time, people think this is how we lived right through history. This is what happens when you give power to the monkey (Nehru), it cuts the king (people in this case) !!

I know this is a very different view point, but this is the unfortunate truth !

By the way, Rahul is the prince of this country - so Nehru won, India Lost !!

Cheers,
JK

Nehru was single handedly responsible for screwing up the country & putting people in such utter poverty !!. so he was responsible for creating the conditions where this poor child was nibbled away by the rat !!

if he had NOT "cut down" these princely kingdoms/landlords, the parliament & assemblies would have been filled with "highly educated" sons/grandsons of these families today & I am sure they would have ruled "far far better" than the "uneducated fools/thugs" !.

PS: These landlords could come to power becos they owned vast tracks of land & millions of people worked for them who would have voted for them !!.

In the west, thats what happened. the yesterday year aristrocracy is what is ruling today - Bush, Clinton, Kennedy, Gingrich, Cameron, Thatcher, Merkel etc..

as a society we need to be smart to leverage our best. today, our best is working abroad contributing to other countries while our country is languishing with 100's of millions in dire poverty becos of Nehru !!

A country/people get what they deserve. Nehru was not such a bad leader. But we can debate that later. There is something more important now. Please read below:

I am sure you will be aware of our kings of princely states who conducted regular competitions in finding out who had the ability to sustain an erection for the longest period of time even under provocative circumstances. And if you are familiar with Tamil poetry you will also be aware of Zamindars and smaller rajas who announced rewards to their poets for singing a சிலேடை comparing a ship with a woman, comparing a palm tree with a woman etc., It is into such an environment that that immortal bard Subramanya Bharathi came loudly announcing சொல் புதிது பொருள் புதிது..... If, as you say, the princely states and rich zamindars had the opportunity to rule India, they would have made us a country of jokers.

These landlords could come to power becos they owned vast tracks of land & millions of people worked for them who would have voted for them !!.

They would not have been voted to power. They would have just appropriated power.

In the west, thats what happened. the yesterday year aristrocracy is what is ruling today - Bush, Clinton, Kennedy, Gingrich, Cameron, Thatcher, Merkel etc.. As a society we need to be smart to leverage our best.

Even Nehru was belonging to the aristocracy of India. His ancestral home Ananda Bhavan in Allahabad was not a two room tenement in the Dharavi slum of Mumbai.

today, our best is working abroad contributing to other countries while our country is languishing with 100's of millions in dire poverty becos of Nehru !!

The best brains always come back after making it big there. It is only the wage-slaves and coolies (who have lost their every thing including their children to an alien culture) who stay back permanently. We are doing reasonably well as a young country.

Think about it.

Cheers.

Dear Raju,

Sorry have to respectfully disagree !!

Do you know that out of 1.4 Billion people (incase u didnt notice, we are the fastest growing population), only 400 Mil (both urban & rural economy as per the Govt of India itself !!) are in this new economy post liberalization by Naraasimha Rao.

Over 1 Bil live in abject poverty ! why do you think millions pour into the cities & live in such shabby conditions in Mumbai & other cities, becos the rural economy is dead !. why do you think we needed the green revolution for a historically farming community, becos Nehru destroyed it in the first place !!.

On your observation on princes/landlords - yes, everyone made mistakes but they were in the past ! & was/is not true post independance. And how do we know that "they would have appropriated power". ?

frankly - if people dont want to leverage the yester year aristrocrats of our country, then it is people's loss !!. they are NOT dying to get into power anyways !. they are more than happy to spend their lives in foreign lands far from the dusty/grime filled country. It is people who should be dying to bring them back to power instead of the junk that is ruling today.

By the way , all Nehru had to do was - "ensure minimum wages to all", "ensure equal treatment & justice - any transgression would be punished by law" !!. All the princely kingdoms/landlords would have fallen in line. we would have had a prosperous economy from day 1 of independance !. Instead he looted them officially (in the name of socialism/communism) & in the process killed the lively hood of 100s of millions of people !!

Anyways, even if people "want", there is no way to get "any of the educated & experienced people" to power becos if you happen to stand in elections, these thugs will bump you off the road !. so they have not only appropriated power, they have ensured no one else can come to power unless he or she is a thug !!

PS: Also let me clarify, I am not anti-congress or pro-BJP !, have NO political affiliations at all. Infact BJP in my view is far worse than the congress !.

Cheers,
JK

yes, the best brains always come back after having spent their "best" in these foreign lands to spend their retirement years - nothing to offer here !!. of course this applies only to the 1st generation migrants, not to the second/third gen who are fully westernised & will not come back !!

That speaks volumes about their calibre. Please read the last line of this post.

It would be better for India if they stay where they are.

Good riddance.
