There was a time when reporters in Madras would know where to phone- in chief minister M Karunanidhi for a sound byte. In the mornings it was Gopalpuram where he resided with manaivi; after noon, it was Alwarpet, residence of his thunaivi. But somehow it invited smirks and ridicule but never the smutty insults that followed Jayalalitha and the alleged gossip of her keeping companions-female or otherwise. Her own ministers, would let slip leeringly, “Madam wants it all the time”. The male and female versions differed. She was horny if she needed sexual company.
