The bad news :
The Nov-Dec 2015 rains and floods have again started to haunt Chennai in May 2016 when surprisingly it is raining very heavily the last 2 days and the rains might continue for couple of more days . The rains are welcome in May to escape the heat but when it is in excess it leads to flooding .Already the low lying areas have started to get water logged .

The Good News :

Good to see pro-active steps being taken by Chennai Corporation to handle any emergency due to floods in Chennai by keeping boats in standby at likely flood affected areas .Also the National Disaster Response Force ( NDRF ) personnel are in standby . Also many relief camps are kept ready to handle any emergency and happy that the mistakes made in handling the Nov-Dec 2015 rains and floods in Chennai are being rectified and this time the Corporation is well prepared .

Chennai rains: Corporation battle ready

Chennai: If there is one sign that shows that Chennaiites have not forgotten the December 2015 floods and that the government is sure it is not caught off-guard, it is the boats that are parked in the low-lying areas of Kotturpuram.

No one who arrives in Chennai would believe that this is the Kathri season. The heavy rainfall witnessed during the month of May, with Chennai recording 67 mm of rainfall until Tuesday, is unseasonal as it is welcome.

The incessant rain was heavy and Chennaiites were reminded of the floods in December 2015. With memory of the devastating floods still fresh in their minds, the people and authorities are far more prepared now.

The government has taken many safety precautions to make sure there is not a repeat of December. Proper measures have been taken widen the rivers in Chennai. The banks of the Adyar and Cooum rivers have been widened after the floods.

True .One good thing about this current rains in May is that Chennai's Water supply is well taken care off for at least a year and the terrible May heat has come down . Only pray and hope that the rains do not keep on pouring like the way it was in Nov-Dec 2015 and lead to floods .

This rains in May came as a blessing in disguise for Chennai people for 3 thhings :

1) It increased the water capacity of the reservoris and so no problems for at least a year
2) It brought the heat down and it is now very pleasant .
3) It tested the preparedness of the Chennai Corporation and they seem to have learnt the lessons well after last year's rains and floods and they kept the boats and NDRF team in standby and also kept various releif camps in readiness in case any emeregncy were to arise .So far no emergency but good to see them operating very professionally .

I was travelling bangalore delhi yesterday by air ,one hour with turbulence.

so this year monsoon are likely to be good.

I ended up with searing heat of 41celsius in evening at delhi .

I do not know which is worse. Hot delhi or rainy south.

I am tempted to head for mountains up north risking snow fall and bitter cold.

Let us see.

This time air fare war is on with spicejet and indigo. Fares are tempting.

OYO offers good room deals.

Feeling tempted
