Air pollution is not new to Delhi. Except for the recent years, I have been visiting Delhi for the past 50 odd years, where both my sister and brother were living. During all my visits, I have noticed this smog till midday. Interestingly the reasons given by bureaucrats are amusing. They attribute the smog to smoke out of transport vehicles etc. Which is minor one.The major reason is the burning of wheat straw, and left over rubbish in fields in surrounding villages in winter. Also the continuous belching of smoke from power generating units in Indraprastha area and Rajghat. I am not aware of any further safe guards against smoke was taken in recent years. We see this problem rising every winter season. The Governments give the same reason and put some kind of ban on use of petrol and oil in vehicles. No one can stop the major problem without affending the farming community.
