Had an experience of cancer treatment in chennai Adyar cancer hospital
Amazed by the incidence of cancer of mostly breast in women and throat ;tongue;lungs in men.
Hundreds of mostly poor stream in everyday.
The dedication of doctors there is amazing.
The charges are almost nil for the poor and as per capacity of payment for others
Moat go thru the pain of surgery followed by radiation ( chemo or normal) .In addition to surgery ;28 to33 sittings for radiation.

It takes about 5to6 months of treatment 5 days a week.

Experience of watching undergoing the treatment can be mentally disturbing.
 
Founded by Dr Muthulakshmi Reddy /Krishnamuthy And Dr Shantha it is run on donations .Drs are dedicated and staff helpful.
More than the pain of treatment; the wait time at the facilities can be sickening.
The treatment for surgery and internal radiation requires stay at hospital .Otherwise it is only OPD.
The plus point is transparency in treatment
Checks and counter checks to avoid mistakes.
Medicines are available directly in their pharmacy .
They have a nice canteen for those accompanying patients.

A remarkable dedication and service by Dr. Shantha and other doctors and taff.

Inspired Doctors and staff their work and dedication towards patients is amazing.
 
Mindset of cancer patients.Primarily Why me ? Reasons could be genetic; bad lifestyle;(Smoke;Drink;Gutka)
If detected early Stage 1a or b easily curable.Higher stages or fast spreading could be deadly.
Any lump on breast or boils on tongue is a warning sign.
Most cases from women are in ages 40 and
above.in Adyar hospital.There were many from andhra.They stay at charity run choultry nearby. Many house;flat owners at Adyar offer a room to patient and family.
It is wise to have a cancer check up if there is a record of cancer in the family
 
The mental and physical make up radically changes in cancer survivors.They become easily depressed.emotional.Some become
philosophical othets more religeous getting
into rituals;temple visits increase.
Very few retain the zest for life .
The food restrictions make many thirst for spicy delicious food.Diets get watched.Periodic health check ups becomes mandatory.
Very few integrate fully back into society.
 
Women patients from poorer sections of society cope better with treatment than well off.For them it is just one more illness.
Many land up for treatment without anyone accompanying them.
Drop outs from treatment is maximum from them.
Most do not complete the treatment and stop after 12 to 15 sittings for radiation.
Only the well off take it to heart and read from google about consequences of not undergoing the full treatment.
Husbands accompanying wives are most casual about treatment.One middle class gent was playing games on mobile while spouse was undergoing radiation.Lol.
 
Loss of hair due to chemo and removal of breast can creat a trauma.for womenSimilarly having a feed thru pipe stuck into throat for men is not pleasant.
Cancer support groups can help a lot in addition to immediate family.
Women in Adyar hospital appear cool and bond with other women sharing their personal stories
Charity treatment somehow leads to disrespecting those undergoing treatment

The wait time extends from 1 to 2 hours for OPD service.The women sometimes are treated badly by security staff in waiting hall
Some women are bold and hit back though.
Not many tamil brahmins go to this hospital.

I could see only the poorest brahmins there.
Well off brahmins prefer Apollo or fortis.
Unfortunately these do not guarantee better cure though their facilities might be better.
Spending more is no answer to better treatment of disease.
Here Adyar hospital scores over others.
 
Daily I hear of more cancer cases mostly of women in delhi.

most common ones are breast cancer.

AIIMS uses some imported vaccine for chemo avoiding radiation therapy.

These days there are many women in younger age groups ending up with such ailments.

Minute there is a lump ,it is better to check.

For men it is mostly due to chewing pan masala and smoking..

It is very painful to even watch men being fed thru tubes stuck to their throat.
