There are 3 types of artha or wealth for human beings. Mental (Courage, Knowledge), Physical (Health, Assets), Spiritual (Emotional balance, Peace). Karthigai Amavasya being the first day we invoke Lakshmi for health and resources on that day. But Lakshmi follows the Lord and resides on Him. Hence she resides where the Lord resides. But where does Lord reside..?
Though Lakshmi visits during the puja every friday with care and concern, she resides on Lord Venkataramana, who resides as the witness/sAksi in minds of good/detached people and hence Lakshmi also resides in them. As the detachment rises slowly in minds, Lakshmi also rises slowly like butter on curd, yielding physical and mental desires.
