There was a tightrope walker, who was so good that he could walk between two twenty stories building on a tight rope with a balancing pole.
Thousands of people would watch him perform his breathtaking feat. After he walked across the building he would have his assistant sit on his shoulder and he would proceed to walk across the building.​

Everybody was amazed and gave him a thunderous applause. He asked them whether they believed that he could do it again. The crowd said, yes, we believe that you can!​

After a while he asked the crowd again, Now, who wants to volunteer to get on my shoulder? With that the crowd became silent.
There is a difference between Believe and Faith. We can believe what we see. The crowd believed in the tightrope walker because they saw him perform the feat. But when he asked them, who wants to get on my shoulder? Everyone was silent. The crowd had Belief but they did not have Faith. That tells the difference between belief and having faith.​

With due respect to your message, my understanding is slightly different. Belief is accepting something without any proof or evidence; faith is belief, based on religion... still accepting something without evidence.

When the people saw the tight-rope walker performing the feat they 'knew' he could do it, since there was evidence of his performing the feat.

There is a difference between belief and faith. Belief is placed on human beings or things we see. For example, I believe in my skills.. I believe my car would take me to Sydney without breaking down... I believe my friend would lend me a hand to clean-up my home....

We have faith in higher beings. We have faith in God. Or faith in someone we trust almost equal to God, like faith in Guru.

Raghy Ji,

I disagree with your reply on faith. We can also have faith in our abilities or in our friends because faith is something that comes with times. If I was to relook at difference in belief and faith.

Belief comes with hard facts backing whatever we are listening whereas faith comes after experiencing the same thing over a period of time.

The belief in the above story was because of the fact that the people saw the man walking the tightrope however the only one to have faith in the same tightrope walker was his assistant as he had the experience of sitting on his shoulder over the tightrope.

You are right. We have faith in God, without that superior power with Whom we will share our sorrows, to Whom we will offer our prayers, We have faith in our parents and family, that is the hope we keep with ourselves to live our life smoothly. May be the writer is trying to say that sometimes, what we see we do believe in that, but when it comes to risk our lives we lose our faith in that. Other that the Superior Power of God, Parents and few other closest people we won’t keep full faith in what we see and believe. We need reassurance again and again before we create faith in that. May be the writer was trying to put it like this way. This is the concept I got from this topic. We can interpret in your way too. In a positive way, all can put in their opinion and can take it in their life too. Right Madam???
