No comments on the video attached, but i would like to think, that those who built the house, did not think of proper foundations or plan to fight the power of ganges flooding. oh well, hope nobody was there in the house when it happened.

Dear Sri Kunjuppu,

The video is painful reminder of neglect.
Uttarakhand is one of the most neglected States in our Country. Very poor Governance has allowed this State to get robbed of its forest wealth. It has no major source of revenue except pilgrim flow. However, after the completion of Tehri Dam across Bagirathi River the State is producing 2400 MW Power, which is sold to other States. With the unpredicted natural conditions the entire State suffers land slides and rain havoc every year. Uttarkashi on the banks of Bagirathi is one of the most affected areas in this State. It is also on seismic fault resulting in suffering due to earth quakes. I have visited many pilgrim centers in Uttarakhand and stayed in some ashrams including Tapovankutir (Chinmaya Ashram) at Uttarkashi for ten days. People here are very good, hard working and friendly, but extremely poor. Interestingly Uttarakhand is the only state in India which has highest population of 20% Brahmins and declared Sanskrit along with Hindi as the official Language.

The recent floods have wreaked havoc in Uttarakhand...The ecosystem is fragile...Concrete Construction are spoiling the environment...

I love Uttarakhand be it Nainital or Naukuchiatal or Binsar

Hower I am yet to visit the holy places (Chota Char Dham) in Uttarakhand

Following the heavy rains, the Char Dham Yatra has been halted and hundreds and thousands of pilgrims are stranded enroute to Badrinath, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Yamunotri.

Officials said that rivers like Ganga Bhagirathi and Asi Ganga are in spate and the Ganga has breached the danger mark in Haridwar.

You have rekindled my memories again.

The white water rafting in Ganga is organised from various places upstream to Rishikesh. Most popular one is from Shivpuri 17 Kms north of Rishikesh. In February 2001 I had attended a spiritual retreat arranged by our group Satsang Foundation at Rishikesh for a fortnight under our Spiritual master "M". One of the events arranged for the members was White water rafting. The starting point of rafting was Shivpuri, half hour journey from Vashishta Gufa on Badrinath Road and halfway dropping point was Brahmapuri opposite Vedniketan Ashram. Most of our members took the rafting. But I could not participate due to age factor and my high BP condition. During the journey the rafts have to negotiate six stretches of rapids including a drop of 14 ft. The members were shaken and drenched but excited. At Brhmapuri hot lunch was arranged for us, which was most inviting.

The Shiva statue now immersed in the floods (shown in the picture) is just opposite to Paramartha Niketan Ashram, in Rishikesh where the popular evening Aarthi is performed by young brahmacharis of the Veda Padasala run by the Ahsram under Swami Chitanandaji.

I wonder why people live just on the banks of rivers... always risky... now Yamuna has breached the danger mark...
