Friends, How important or unimportant is Ashtami and Navmi days? Are those days so bad that we can't do or buy anything new that day? If one has to perforce do something that day, is there any parigaram for that?

Auspicious time to begin anything new is decided upon on the basis of Panchanga. The five factors of Panchanga are "Thithi, Vaaram, Nakshtram, Yogam and Karanam. As per astrological principles thithis of Ashtami & navami are not considered auspicious for number of new ventures.

Yes. Political system was upset, Rama had to go to forest, Sita was abducted and a brahman, Ravana was killed. All the non-sense we see today might have started in Mahabharatha period and there was colossal Mahabharatha war. We want a peaceful life.
