Agnihotram

Who can do agnihotram?

A married Dwija. A dwija means a person who has undergone upanayanam ceremony... which means it is not restricted to just brahmins and can include vaisyas too.

I said a married dwija.... and not a male dwija because what is important in agnihotram is that the agni is kept constantly burning and it is not allowed to die ever. So when the husband is not in a position to tend agni-kAryam due to any reason, the common one being his need to go to another place, then the wife performs
agnihotram (of course sans mantrams).

Agnihotram has been substituted a long time back with aupasanam, just for your info.

WHO CAN PERFORM AGNIHOTRA?
Can anyone perform Agnihotra?
Agnihotra can be performed by anyone irrespective of religion, sect, caste, creed, nationality, color, gender and age. Men, women, and also children can practice Agnihotra. Agnihotra is for everyone.
How many people can make offerings for Agnihotra?
Only one person should make the offerings in Agnihotra. Others can derive benefits by sitting opposite the person performing Agnihotra or anywhere around the Agnihotra pyramid. Two or more members of the same household can perform Agnihotra individually, but they should prepare fire and make offerings in separate Agnihotra pyramids — one pyramid for each person practicing Agnihotra.
What if I cannot do Agnihotra every day?
Whenever Agnihotra is done correctly, it will have beneficial effects. Encourage the person to do it whenever they can. Of course, for maximum effect one should do it every day, twice a day, but if he or she does Agnihotra even once, it is better than never doing it at all. If a person tries Agnihotra and has a good experience, he/she may be motivated to find ways to do it more often. People sometimes find that their circumstances change in time to allow them to practice Agnihotra more regularly. It can be helpful to mention this to beginners who may be feeling discouraged about their schedules.
If I cannot do both sunrise and sunset Agnihotra because of my work schedule, should I be doing it at all?
Whenever Agnihotra is done correctly, it will have effects. It’s like taking a vitamin — the more regularly you take it, the greater the benefit will be, but it will have effects whenever you take it. Many people who now do Agnihotra regularly started by doing Agnihotra whenever they could.
If I start Agnihotra in my house can any other family members perform it?
Yes. If for any reason you cannot perform Agnihotra, another family member or friend can perform it. If you are not present at Agnihotra time, another family member or friend can perform it, in order to maintain the healing cycle. It is also possible to carry a second Agnihotra kit if you will be away from the house at Agnihotra time and you can perform it wherever you are at local timings.
If Agnihotra is discontinued for any reason will there be any bad effect?
No. If regular practice of Agnihotra is stopped or interrupted for any reason there will be absolutely NO bad effect as a result. Only the beneficial effects which are derived from its regular practice will dissipate.

People still have their biases. It is sad.

8. Who can perform it
  • The practice of Agnihotra is simple, easily adoptable and universal. It may be performed by anyone. In the world, many people and families perform this sacrificial fire and derive its benefits. There are no barriers like religion, sect, caste, creed, nationality, colour, sex and age. Children can also practice it under supervision. Women should avoid performing it during their menstrual periods.
  • If Agnihotra is done as a preventive or active measure for protection against nuclear radiation, then SSRF recommends that it is performed by a person of at least the 50% spiritual level. [For more information on the importance of spiritual level in increasing the efficacy of Agnihotra for protection against nuclear radiation, please refer to our article onAgnihotra as protection against nuclear radiation]
  • While performing Agnihotra, only one person should make the offerings. Other members of the family present at the time of Agnihotra will derive the resultant benefits.

Just to burst the bubble of ignorance masquerading as Knowledge.

Agnihotram

angihotram.jpg
Agnihotram is the most simple, efficacious and sacred ritual for total wellbeing and happiness which has ever been bestowed on mankind by Sarveswara, the Supreme Creator.

Maha PeedamAgnihotram is the diminutive form of the Maha Peedam Herbal Sacrificial Fire as ordained from SARVESWARA, the Supreme Creator. Agnihotra is the synthesis of Agni Deva and the feminine counterpart of Hotra. Agni (Fire) is the WILL of BRAHMAM and the manifestation of SARVESWARA. Agnihotram is the ritual of receiving AGNI.

The Swamiji Theory on Maha Peedam Secular Agnihotram is an effective and simple spiritual ritual for every one irrespective caste, creed or nationality. It is a Vedic practice which brings prosperity, peace , inner purification, purification of the environment, harmony with nature, happiness and total wellness. The efficacy of the Maha Peedam Agnihotram is the sum total of the combined works of supra-spirituality and the subtle sciences.

In Arya Samaj tradition: Swami Dayananda did not believe in the Caste system and sexism that prevailed during his time.

The "Agnihotra" or the "Daily Havan" as it is more popularly known has been a very strong part of the "Dharma" that we preach and follow. "Dharma" is simply fulfilling our own responsibilities towards ourselves, our families, our communities -and our environment.

Yajnas or agnihotram are considered by swami Dayanand as one of essential daily five duties of Aryans.
Like water, air and sun, God also created fire for the benefit of all of us. We cannot live without fire that gives us heat. Since fire destroys the impurities of everything, it symbolizes purity. Hindus consider fire sacred. No major Hindu rituals are performed without a Fire Ceremony called Havan or Yajna. Little is known about the physical properties of fire and the elements used in a Havan, and even less is known about the positive environmental effects of performing a Havan. From ancient times, Vedas & Vedic sciences have made significant contributions to the world civilization, culture and knowledge in all areas of human pursuits. These contributions are mostly unknown to the wider world and are often un-acknowledged. This is a "ritual" followed since the Vedic Age, and the current science has proven that our Rishis and Maharishis knew long ago about the effects of Havans! Today’s polluted environment is the biggest challenge being faced by the world. It is threatening the very survival not only of the human race but the entire living world. The western world has in recent times become truly concerned about our environment which has become increasingly polluted over the years. Our Rishis and Maharishis have since the early Vedic Age advised us of the purification process involved in an Agnihotra.

Wise men worship God through various Yajnas. These Yajnas have been their duties since ancient times. Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram and Yogiraj Shri Krishna performed Agnihotra daily, even during the most difficult times in their lives, and our Rishis and others have been performing Agnihotra well before those times. Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati heralded the spiritual renascence in modern times. Science of Agnihotra which was at its peak during the Vedic Age and the knowledge of which is still available in our scriptures. He revived the ancient approach to Vedic concepts. Among other things he reintroduced Yajnas to be performed by every human being every day. Agnihotra is one of the five duties / Yajnas (pancamahayajna) to be performed by every householder twice a day. It has been an integral part of the Vedic Culture and it is also known by the names of Deva Yajna, Havana and Homa. All the 16 Sanskaras including marriage ceremony start with Agnihotra. Since we all continuing to pollute the environment today, scientists and many politicians and special interest groups agree that we must take action and work hard to rid our environment of centuries of pollution.

Agnihotra. Agni means FIRE and hotra means to offer unto the fire to create a healing effect.
Agnihotra, also known as Homa Therapy or Fire Therapy is an Vedic technique that enhances and nourishes human lives creating an equilibrium between the nature within us and around us by tuning our mind and body with rhythm of nature. It’s a process of purification whose positive results have been established by scientists, doctors, ecologists both modern and ancient. Agnihotra is a fabulous and elementary healing therapy practiced by people worldwide as it doesn’t have any religious or national nuances attached to it.
Agnihotra can be performed by anyone, anywhere, at home, in the garden, office etc in a clean and tidy environment. The process is tuned to the biorhythm corresponding with sunrise & sunset, hence Agnihotra is performed precisely at given local sunrise & sunset timings. Fire is prepared in a semi-pyramid shaped copper vessel. Two oblations of two pinch-full of rice smeared with Cow’s Ghee is offered in this fire; simultaneously two Vedic Mantras are chanted.

The process of performing daily Agnihotra, as described below, is very simple and easy, cheap and requires only a few minutes to perform. Yet it is very effective, simple and beneficial in all eventualities. Performance of the Yagna ( Agnihotra), is free from the barriers of nationality, caste, creed, religion, age or gender etc. Anyone who wants to be healthy, happy, fit and stress-free should start performing Agnihotra at the first available chances.

It is still sadder that you chose to respond even without a little bit of reflection. If you had done so, you would have realized that you did not chant any veda mantras before upanayanam, and after upanayanam but till marriage you performed (or were supposed to perform) samith-Adanam. If you recollect your marriage rituals you would have noticed that you started (or were supposed to) maintain trikAgni after marriage and these started with your aupAsanam. After such reflection and making a few enquiries with elders in your own family, you would have known the reasons as to why such agnihOtram "the most simple, efficacious and sacred ritual for total well-being and happiness which has ever been bestowed on mankind" (quoted from the message you posted) was not taught to you right from your aksharAbhyasam.

AgnihOtram for all, Jesus for all, Allah for all, Vishnu for all etc etc are good public posturing, but bulk copy pasting of freely available junk on the internet does not add much to the dispensation of knowledge or answer the query satisfactorily .

When a person asks a query on a web forum, it is a safe bet to assume that he/she also knows about "googling" but they still ask the question because they need a conventional and/or a shAstrik and/or an authentic answer based on scriptures or practice. Throwing a few (or a lot) more untried internet stuff is like adding a few uddarNi of aapam to sAgaram.

Wow!!! what an ego?
Now I understand this dislike of the information age. Some people feel that they are not needed anymore. Their limited knowledge is being challenged.
Someone said:
"what we know is a handful, and what we do not know is as big as the world".
Let us have some humility.

Do you claim to have the ultimate authority on Hinduism?
What do you know about Arya Samaj?
They too are Hindus, if you do not know.
Tp preserves the caste system, in practice in the middle ages, the chanting of Ved mantras were banned for women and some other castes. This was a perversion of the Hinduism. But that is a different discussion.
You are still stuck in the age-old system, the country has progressed.
