விளக்கம்: திருப்பாவையில் வாமன அவதாரத்தைச் சிறப்பாக பாடுகிறாள் ஆண்டாள். மூன்று பாசுரங்களில் இந்த அவதாரத்தை அவள் சிறப்பித்திருக்கிறாள். "ஓங்கி உலகளந்த உத்தமன் பேர்பாடி என்று மூன்றாவது பாடலிலும், இந்தப் பாடலிலும், 24வது பாடலில் அன்று இவ்வுலகம் அளந்தாய் அடி போற்றி என்றும் சொல்கிறாள். அசுரனாயினும் நல்லவனான மகாபலி, தேவர்களை அடக்கி கர்வம் கொண்டிருந்தான். இந்த கர்வம் அடங்கினால் இறைவனை அடைவது உறுதி என்பதாலேயே நாராயணன் வாமனனாக வந்து அவனை ஆட்கொண்டார். திருப்பாவை பாடுபவர்கள் "தான் என்ற கர்வத்தை அடக்க வேண்டும் என்பது இப்பாடல் உணர்த்தும் கருத்து.
பொருள்: ஆடைகளையும், குளிர்ந்த நீரையும், உணவும் பிறர் திருப்திப்படும் அளவுக்கு தர்மம் செய்யும் எங்கள் தலைவரான நந்தகோபரே! தாங்கள் எழுந்தருள வேண்டும். கொடிபோன்ற இடைகளையுடைய பெண்களுக்கு எல்லாம் தலைவியான இளகிய மனம் கொண்ட யசோதையே! மங்களகரமான தீபம் போன்ற முகத்துடன் பிரகாசிப்பவளே! நீ எழ வேண்டும். விண்ணையே கிழித்து உன் திருவடிகளால் உலகளந்த தேவர்களின் தலைவனான எங்கள் கண்ணனே! நீ கண் விழிக்க வேண்டும். செம்பொன்னால் செய்த சிலம்புகளை அணிந்த செல்வத்திருமகனான பலராமனே! நீயும், உன் தம்பியும் உறக்கத்தில் இருந்து எழுந்து எங்களுக்கு தரிசனம் தர வேண்டும்.
The doorkeeper appears to have let the girls and Andal inside and it looks like Andal’s work of waking up people is still a long way to go. Why is everybody sleeping in the Thiruppavai and why is there so much waking up ? There appears to be a very strong inner meaning to this whole waking up business. Is Andal subtly waking up the whole world not from physical sleep but from something else. Is the request not just to wake up to the day but to wake up to a new thought, habit and orientation ? Sri Andal is now attempting to wake up Nandagopan and mother Yashodha, singing their praise as the munificent giver or food and water and clothes to everyone, as my Lord, Ruler of many kings, please wake up. She also attempts to wake up Lord Krishna and his brother Balarama, praising the Lord as the sone who rose up to the sky to measure the three worlds and one who is wearing a red golden anklet, please do not sleep, wake up !
