I feel sad to read the Tamil written in this manner. :(

I do not want to prepare a list of all the wrong spellings. I will just show one which occurs in every line.

'ந' is always used it is occurs as the first letter of a word. 'ன' is used in all the other places when it occurs in a word.

So 'னமஃ' must be 'நமஃ'

What is shared is what is published. I do not know the proper spellings in Tamil to correct them

By sharing things which are not correct, we are making those mistakes more acceptable and help them to get propagated further as authentic information.

I for one, believe that one should not even utter a word ( verbally) - the meaning of which one is not 100% sure about.

What can I say about putting things in black and white - when one does not know what they are and what they mean. :(

Let the people who can still write/ type flawless Tamil take over the job of posting in Tamil. I was of two minds whether or not to post the 108 pOtRi in Tamil.

Now I have decided to go ahead with that - since I owe to the readers of the Forum.
Thank you for helping to make up my wavering mind!

Sanskrit / Hindi is tricky. The small dot placed above the line to which the letters are attached

does not have a specific sound but takes the sound associated with the following consonant.

The five vargas are:-

ka varga, cha varga, ta varga, tha varga and pa varga.

The dot takes on the sound of the consonant occurring at the end of that varga.

For ka, kha, ga and gha it it be nga; ( க...ங)

For cha, chcha, ja and jha it be jna, (ச...ஞ)

For ta, tta, da and dda, it will be na/ Na ( ட ...'ன /ண)

For tha, Tha, dha and Dha it will be na (த ....ந)

For pa, ppa, ba and bha it will be ma. (ப ....ம)

a few examples:

anga = அங்

kinchith = கிஞ்சித்

aNdaமm = அண்டம்

andhaa = அந்தா

ambaa = அம்பா

So when the most important dot on the top is a chameleon with ever hanging sound,

it is wisdom to handle things carefully and with a little more respect.

Is my blind spot growing larger? How can miss such mistakes? o_O :unsure: :oops:

The corrected version of the closing lines of the above post is.....

"So when the most important dot on the top is a chameleon without any specific sound,

it is wisdom to handle things carefully and with a little more respect."

I think the tamil community should shun their prejudice to devanagari script and learn it. Tamil script is not all inclusive and hence the difficulty in writing and pronunciation. Or, they could listen to videos for knowing the correct pronunciation.

By refusing to something very useful, we are reducing our own field of operation and our own prospectus.

Every state except TN promotes the knowledge of Hindi - even though their own language has
the entire spectrum of alphabets - to write precisely what they want to write.

When we were kids we used to hear the expression
"guNduch chattiyil kudhirai Ottubavan" very often from our mother.

We are the "guNduch chattiyil kudhirai OttubavargaL"
And we take great pride in our inability and shortfalls!

"evan ukkAndhu dEvanAgari padippAn? :(
namakku ellAm vERE vElaiyE illaiyA?" :(
