I have a friend who is a Divisional Engineer (Maintenance) in Southern Railway. He informed me in a private chat that to ensure safety, the existing track could sustain a speed of 110 km. per hour only.

If the speed is to be increased the track has to to be strengthened with some additional reinforcement. But the top officials to appease the railway minister, had given the false assurances that the track could sustain the speed of 150 k.m per hour.
Of course the Volvo carriages could give luxury and comfort; but before increasing the speed existing track should certainly be reinforced to ensure safety.

It is a pleasant surprise for frequent travellers.

We have been seeing our colonial era trains with ‘chikku bukku’ rhyme and rattling noise trucking along the track at an unhurried pace for several decades.

Though there are several changes taking place around us, it is a welcome one.

It is a nice news if they cut their running time by increasing the speed though not 150 but alteast 120 duly taking all passenger safety measures under consideration.

But there are reports to say that our existing rail tracks are capable of handling train at 200 k.m.per hour speed with imported technical imputs.

I AM TOLD BY THE TECHNICAL PEOPLE in Railway track maintenance .........that the present condition of the tracks would not withstand a speed of not more than 110/120 km per hour. To increase further speed Railway has to incur expenses which has not been sanctioned in the current budget. Let us hope for the best in the next .
