Almost all the olden days brahmin houses had the hand grinders & men used used to help , when it becomes hard to operate. Only thing , we had experienced was ;- theplace of fixing the grider gives way sooner than later & start innovating / Packing thick Attai , underneath & it works for some time & replace/ refit & carry on ?
Some houses may have them , just to show, proudly, to their grand children who may visit either in India or from U.S.

i used to play pallamkuzhi with gals in our agraharam....whole agraharams are cousins...means very close relatives....
we have same coffee grinder still in my law's house in delhi....we used by coffee seeds and grind ourself..they got
sixty years back...when they left tamil nadu sixty years back and settled in delhi....we still use sometimes...
