Dozen shell firms, 44 costly paintings and Rs 2000 crore investments of Rana Kapoor under ED scanner

NEW DELHI: Investments worth over Rs 2,000 crore, 44 expensive paintings and a dozen alleged shell firms are at the heart of ED's investigations against Yes BankNSE -56.11 % founder Rana Kapoor who was arrested by the agency on Sunday on money laundering charges, officials said.

The agency, official sources said, has also recovered documents that show some assets of the Kapoor family in London and the source of funds for their acquisition is now being investigated.

How Yes Bank plunged into crisis: A timeline

The RBI superseded Yes Bank Thursday but the crisis began much earlier with a CEO known for taking risks, corruption allegations against Chairman and insider trading allegations.

After the central bank’s announcement, Yes Bank’s market capital nosedived to less than Rs 5,000 crore Friday from more than Rs 1 lakh crore in August 2018, with stocks plunging nearly 85 per cent.

This crisis, however, was a long time coming. The RBI had raised concerns over corporate governance lapses and the deteriorating quality of the bank’s loan books in the last few years. Here is a look at the chronology of events that led to the central bank’s decision:
