It is nothing but knee jerk reaction. Is Ilaya Raja the only Music Director who copied songs from other languages? All Music Directors are one one way or the other copyists.

We are living in virtual commercial world.

For the sake of argument, why did Thiagaraja not compose any songs in Tamil, when his livelihood was in Tamil Nadu? Can we say it is due to lack of discipline shown to Tamil or not intelligent enough to learn other languages?

The Telugus lived in their own world not bothering about Tamil...They spoke Telugu at home...They created anarchy in Tamil Nadu by joining the Dravida movement against Tambrahms...Read this- the barbers in Tanjore /Madura were also from Telugu land (We know the Telugu Ambattan along with his Balija Naidu father who spewed venom on the hapless community)..Let us be beware of these anti nationalists..

There is a lot of difference between spontaneous songs and writing lyrics for the sake of writing! :)

The spontaneous lyrics will naturally be in ones mother tongue. Saint Thyagaraja was no exception.

BTW, Shyama Sastri composed a couple of songs in Tamil and they sound like a new language 'Telumil'!!

One Raja when offered நிதி opts for சந்நிதி ! Another when denied நிதி demands நீதி ! Thiagraja was not வசூல்ராஜா
 
If the Raja demands நிதி under the pretext of நீதி his songs will face a bad விதி!! ;)
 
Call me the Devil's Advocate! I believe in the strong enforcement of copyrights and copyright laws, even if it is by a movie music director, to prevent unjust and unreasonable exploitation of authors' original works by others, SPB included, for financial gains. If Ilayaraja copied others' music, let those "others" sue Ilayaraja. His copying others' music has no bearing on his suing SPB for profiting from Raja's songs.
 
Actually, S P B does NOT lose anything by not singing Ilayaraja's music. :cool:

Ilayaraja's name will NOT be heard in the concerts of S P B and so who will be the loser? :D

P.S: lose -be deprived of or cease to have or retain (something)

:lol: What will S P B have, if he gives a share to each of the music directors?

Now, the lyricists might also demand their share, because some songs become hits ONLY by the lyrics!

Some of them are horrible too like 'அட்ரா அட்ரா நாக்க முக்கா' / 'டங்கமாரி ஊதாரி புட்டுகின நீ நாறி' !!

How many people in Tamil Nadu first have interest in Carnatic Music, let alone have knowledge about Thiagaraja? Can u please tell? For Bs, it becomes a commitment or necessity to elevate Thiagaraja to the level of God and for others, definitely not.
