LK Advani joins Rahul Gandhi in criticizing BJP for being 'one-man show'
BJP's preeminent party elder, LK Advani, has critiqued the Narendra Modi-led and dominated campaign effort by telling the party's senior leaders that it is becoming "a one-man party". Advani has also told BJP leaders that he agrees with Rahul Gandhi's critique of BJP being dominated by one leader.

BJP's senior-most leaders who spoke to ET for this story, on condition they not be identified, said Advani has been making similar observations over the last few weeks, as Modi's campaign has gathered tempo. But the sharpest critique, one BJP leader said, came at the February 27 meeting of BJP's central election committee.

Arvind Kejriwal detained in Gujarat for violation of model code of conduct
"As per the model code of conduct, for any meeting or even holding road show the political parties have to seek permission from the collectorate and police, but the Gujarat unit of AAP had not taken any permission for the road show," a police officer said.

However, local AAP leader and media coordinator H Nayak said that this was done at the behest of BJP, which has misused the government machinery. The support that Kejriwal was getting from the common public in the villages had sent tremors in the BJP state unit, which misused the police and disrupted the programme. He said that since morning even the media was being threatened by the cops on duty and were not allowed to air Kejriwal's programmes.

Those eligible to vote but not in Voters list, here is the last chance...Hurry up..March 9th is last date

Elections 2014: Voters can check names in electoral roll on March 9 | NDTV.com

Special camps will be held across the country on March 9 so that voters can check if their names are present in the electoral rolls, Chief Election Commissioner V.S. Sampath said on Wednesday.

"The commission has received complaints that some people having EPIC (Elector Photo Identity Card) have in the past been denied the right to vote because their names were not found in the electoral rolls," Mr Sampath said.

The camps will be organised on March 9 in all polling stations, where booth officers will have the electoral rolls displayed, with requisite number of application forms.

"We appeal to those who want to confirm their names to avail of this opportunity before the election, so that if any people want to get enrolled can file applications," he said.

The commission also clarified that only those people will be allowed to vote at a polling station who are enrolled in the electoral roll there.

"EPIC is only an identity document and does not confer the right to vote on any person whose name is not in the electoral roll," the chief election commissioner said.

The commission also made it clear that the law does not allow inclusion of names in the electoral rolls after 3 pm on the last date of filing nominations, till the electoral process is complete.

"All people are therefore advised that they must check that their names are in the electoral rolls".

Voters can check their names on the website of the chief electoral officers. Names can also be checked through SMS through numbers provided by state election commissions.

"If the name of any person eligible to be enrolled is left out for some reason or has been wrongly deleted, such a person should immediately fill an application for inclusion of the name in Form 6 and hand it over to the booth level officer," he said.

Indian Election in the Eyes of US

WASHINGTON: The U.S. media looks at India's upcoming general elections as an "insanely huge and complex exercise" to "one of the most significant elections in decades" that will put "more power in the hands and thumbs of the Indian voter than ever before.”

Influential Time magazine described the elections as "the insanely huge and complex exercise", noting that 814 million voters in the "world's largest democracy will go to the polls" at 900,000 polling stations across the country.

"Voters will choose lawmakers from the incumbent Congress Party, which has led India's ruling coalition since 2004, the main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party, the new anticorruption Aam Aadmi Party and a variety of small but powerful regional parties."

The Wall Street Journal called the elections "juggernaut" as "one of the most significant elections in decades - a contest between a weakened secular left and a resurgent right with Hindu nationalist roots".

"The battle for the electoral supremacy is an evolving process in India and this time, the added opportunity of social media reach and mobile Internet penetration means more power in the hands and thumbs of the Indian voter than ever before," it said.

"Modi's pledge to boost the economy by kick-starting manufacturing and making government cleaner and more efficient has struck a chord with an electorate angry with corruption scandals and flagging growth," the Journal said.

Indian Elections in The Eyes Of U.S. Media

For the first time in the history of Indian elections, voters will have the button on voting machines to choose NOT to elect any of the contestant. This may motivate a larger elector turn-out.

This only makes the vote invalid - like defacing or wrong marking or tearing the voting slip. No effect on the winning candidate. Unless law is amended to order repoll if nota gets the majority.

".. Unless law is amended ..".

Like "If the number of such 'Not electing any candidate' exceeds a certain number or is a certain percentage of the electorate in that constituency, all the candidates will be rejected and banned forever from contesting elections. Re-poll will be conducted in that constituency...."

Elections are always held in peak summer. People are usually loath to standing in the sun to cast a vote. Politicians prefer the voting % age to be less than 50% ideally. If 90% of eligible voters cast their vote, these politicians will be consigned to the garbage heap.

And the politicians are actually blameless. The unwashed masses who vote these criminals to power are to be blamed for India's sorry plight.

it is the urban middle class by not voting are the culprits. they do not raise their voice against criminality, corruption, lack of concern for the common good and let the poor masses choose. others can sit abraoad and make empty noises. country gets what it deserves.
