6,000 villagers from border areas shifted to relief camps in J&K: Govt

Nearly 6000 villagers from the border areas in Jammu & Kashmir have been shifted to the relief camps established in Kathua district in view of continued crossborder firing by Pakistan.

"16 relief camps have been established in Kathua where around 6000 people have migrated from 43 border villages in view of heavy shelling across International Border in Hiranagar sector," deputy commissioner, Kathua, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said.

He said evacuation started early on Tuesday in view of the expected firing from across the border.
"Main relief camps have been set up at Hiranagar-A, Hiranagar-B, Chhan Khatrian, Marheen, Kootah, Gadhyal, Haria Chak, Plat, Kanachak and Chak Kahan," he said.

"As many as 61 school buildings and 18 panchayat ghars have been notified as relief camps and 30 health institutions declared a emergency centres. A total of 57 villages have been affected directly or indirectly due to cross border firing," the deputy commissioner said.

This pacifist approach is not going anywhere fast. May be an Israel tactic of talking the war to the enemy might be the only solution left.

Pakistan will have to pay a heavy price for adventurism at border, defence minister Arun Jaitley says
Where is the action?

1. It is all sabre rattling by both countries. They have been using so far only the small and medium calibre arms-machine guns and mortars. Both side have meticulously avoided bringing in the higher calibre long range guns/artillery or rocket launchers. Vacating the border villages is usual under such circumstances. It happens every time there is sustained firing across the border. They will not go to war.

2. Elections are round the corner in Haryana and J & K. This sabre rattling is a prelude to that. Wait and see. After the elections the border will fall silent and it will be business as usual.

3. India needs this tension because it has elections. Pak needs this tension because it has serious problems in the political front within the country.

4. India can go for a punitive war the day it is sure that US will stand back and allow things to take their course.

5. US and others in the world who matter would like India for ever to be tied down with Pak in skirmishes and border wars because that suits their purpose. One is arms sales and the second is India will remain subservient to them. However hard India may try Pak will always have their ears first.

6. May be we will have to wait for another 5 years for sustained economic development, to be heard seriously by the world powers.

Till then it will be better to avoid a full scale war with anyone and local skirmishes can be fought with ferocity to get an upper hand.
