My friends especially brahmin friends have nicknamed me as kristava brahmanan, since i speak tamil as they speak, i am a vegetarian, i wear dhothi as panchakacham, i read scriptures always, i mingle with brahmins, i learnt sanskrit and above all these, my wife is a brahmin.

To the extent i know, a brahmin is one who seeks brahman, the eternal truth (unmai paramporul), who has realized brahman, who practises brahman

One of my relations a brahmin girl married to a christian who has adopted hindu religeous practices. During his grihapravesam ceremony ,the vadhyar asked for his gothram and he was stumped. His wife covered up for him lending her gothra for the ceremony.LOL

Welcome to a forum in which most of the members are of Indian origin. What Mr. Vgane asked is not an uncommon inquiry. For most people, that kind of sharp response to a seemingly innocuous query usually indicates that a person has unresolved issues. I do not if that is the case in this instance

I am wondering why you took Vgane's ji reply in a manner that seemed totally opposite from the impression you had given members in Forum.

When I first read your post that your TB friends call you a Christian Brahmin..I was thinking just last week hell broke lose in Forum when me and another member here objected to usage of the Iyer/Brahmin tag to Non Brahmins/Non Hindus as it sorts of does not give due credit to the Non Brahmin/Non Hindu.


I was reading that you are vegetarian,read scriptures,wear Panchakam etc...I was thinking 'wow this guy is a very broadminded person with love for other scriptures and must be totally in love with his wife too and sees her culture as his"

In my mind I was thinking that this is totally a Christian that would make Jesus happy and seeing your sharp reaction to Vgane ji..I was wondering "hey what went wrong here?"

Frankly speaking I do not believe in giving caste tags to anyone.

From your lifestyle you seem to display good cultural and spiritual values that were shaped by your own family and religion and certainly by your wife's love for you too..so all due credit goes to Jesus's teachings, Indian/Tamil culture and a loving spouse.

Perhaps Asirvatham ji does not understand the implication of identifying with the brahmin. The so called born brahmins while getting some previleges of varna system also find in modern days that it is a cross on their backs or albatross around their neck to be carried for a lifetime. other castes and religion would like to belong to this class even to the extent of giving up their caste or religeous identities.one mans meat could be another s poison. very perplexing as naraji says

It is one thing to criticize what somebody says, but to go beyond and insinuate some deep rooted psychological problem is a bridge too far in my book ....
