My friends especially brahmin friends have nicknamed me as kristava brahmanan, since i speak tamil as they speak, i am a vegetarian, i wear dhothi as panchakacham, i read scriptures always, i mingle with brahmins, i learnt sanskrit and above all these, my wife is a brahmin.

To the extent i know, a brahmin is one who seeks brahman, the eternal truth (unmai paramporul), who has realized brahman, who practises brahman
One of my relations a brahmin girl married to a christian who has adopted hindu religeous practices. During his grihapravesam ceremony ,the vadhyar asked for his gothram and he was stumped. His wife covered up for him lending her gothra for the ceremony.LOL

THanks RRJi I will translate the lyrics for Naraji
let there be brotherhood between man and man
That is our message
in modern world the old concept of highly placed and the poor has sprung up
let every one get paid as per work delivered equitably
let happiness and sorrow be distributed among all equally
This is our message

let every one in palace contribute to provide light to those in hut
Let there be no difference between the big and the small
let there be light all around
This is our message

Cheeee.. Ewwww!!!

Dear Ash,

Why Cheeee...Ewwww?

You know last week I was seeing an episode of Rookie Blue(Its a Police Drama series..not some porn) where this young police officer was trying to kill time by asking a few guys in the police lock up(not prison) some general knowledge questions.

He asked them "which is the tallest mountain in the USA"..to which one old guy replied "Brokeback mountain" and all the detainees in the lock up where laughing non stop.

It was so funny!

Dear Sri Asirvadam,

That's great! Do you follow all the Hindu customs and celebrate Hindu Festivals too?

Dearest Brother Vgane,

Do u love God with all your heart, all your soul and all your might?

Do you love your neighbour as yourself?

If your answer to the above is 'Yes', there is no law, custom, festival or religion which is any match for the above.

Please stop your unwelcome queries and probes.

I take that as a no.

Welcome to a forum in which most of the members are of Indian origin. What Mr. Vgane asked is not an uncommon inquiry. It is cultural, suddenly you want to your privacy, that is not the usual to our culture. If you do not want to answer, you may say so, but please do not take offense to a normal inquiry.

For most people, that kind of sharp response to a seemingly innocuous query usually indicates that a person has unresolved issues. I do not if that is the case in this instance

Dear Asirvadam ji,

I am wondering why you took Vgane's ji reply in a manner that seemed totally opposite from the impression you had given members in Forum.

When I first read your post that your TB friends call you a Christian Brahmin..I was thinking just last week hell broke lose in Forum when me and another member here objected to usage of the Iyer/Brahmin tag to Non Brahmins/Non Hindus as it sorts of does not give due credit to the Non Brahmin/Non Hindu.

I was reading that you are vegetarian, read scriptures, wear Panchakam etc...I was thinking 'wow this guy is a very broadminded person with love for other scriptures and must be totally in love with his wife too and sees her culture as his"

In my mind I was thinking that this is totally a Christian that would make Jesus happy and seeing your sharp reaction to Vgane ji..I was wondering "hey what went wrong here?"

Frankly speaking I do not believe in giving caste tags to anyone.

From your lifestyle you seem to display good cultural and spiritual values that were shaped by your own family and religion and certainly by your wife's love for you too..so all due credit goes to Jesus's teachings, Indian/Tamil culture and a loving spouse.

tks, with due apologies to asirvadam who is now being raked over the coal -- he got it coming no doubt -- I am curious about these unresolved issues, which may or may not be the case in this instance. What are they?

thanks ....

I love Vgane and I admire Vgane's posts.

But this query of Vgane's is supercilious.
Come on Asirvadam, you asked for it with your own claim that your nick name is "kristava brahmanan". Don't say you admire vgane -- love is easy, but to admire is something else -- and then, in the same breath, say he was being pompous

Why would a rational self-respecting person want to associate her/him with the "brahmin" identity, that too somebody who is not a brahmin, is perplexing, to say the least.

Perhaps Asirvatham ji does not understand the implication of identifying with the brahmin. The so called born brahmins while getting some previleges of varna system also find in modern days that it is a cross on their backs or albatross around their neck to be carried for a lifetime. other castes and religion would like to belong to this class even to the extent of giving up their caste or religeous identities.one mans meat could be another s poison. very perplexing as naraji says

It is one thing to criticize what somebody says, but to go beyond and insinuate some deep rooted psychological problem is a bridge too far in my book ....
