folks,

can anyone tell me what type of franchise existed in the elections before 1947 or jan 26 1950?

was it adult universal franchise? or were there any educational or landownership criteria? did women have the vote.

i have been looking for this for a while. thank you.

Roughly 15% of the population were eligible to vote in Legislative elections in Madras Presidency as per Govt of India Act 1935,the criteria being land/property ownership and those paying Urban Taxes.
