Vijay Mallya booed with 'chor chor' slogansat the Oval Stadium

London:Loan defaulter and former business tycoon Vijay Mallya was booed at the Oval Stadium in London with chants of “chor, chor” (thief, thief)raised by some Indian supporters who had come to watch the India-South AfricaChampions Trophy match on Sunday.

A video going viral on social media films Mallya’s entry to the Oval stadium and a supporter in the background is heard saying Chor gaya, chor,” (there goes the thief) as others around him are heardlaughing.

Mallya recently caused embarrassment for the Indian cricket team when he poppedin to attend a charity dinner organised by Virat Kohli's Foundation last week. The Indian skipper and national team gave him the cold shoulder and they left earlier than they were supposed to,owing to Mallya’s presence.

The former Kingfisher Airlines chairman had also stoked controversy on Sunday when he was spotted in the VIP section of Edgbaston Cricket Ground inBirmingham, watching the India-Pakistan match.

India has already started the extraditionprocess to bring Mallya back to India.

Mallya has been declared a wilful defaulter and is wanted by Indian authorities for default in the payment of loans related to Kingfisher Airlines that was grounded in 2012.

He owes over Rs 9,000 crore to lenders including SBI, PNB, IDBI Bank, BoB, Allahabad Bank, Federal Bank and Axis Bank. He left the country on March 3 last year and is currently in the UK.
