TTD toying with the idea of two-tier darshan system – The Hindu

Management comes up with proposal to facilitate hassle-free darshan to theever-increasing devotees

After evaluating several alternatives to deal with theever increasing crowd thronging the temple of Lord Venkateswara, the TirumalaTirupati Devasthanams (TTD) seems to have at last stumbled upon an appropriateoption – ‘Two-tier darshan’ system.

Concerned over complaints that the visiting devotees are being mercilessly pushed and shoved inside the hill temple, the management has been exploring several solutions for the perpetual crisis when the TTD’s Executive Officer M.G. Gopal came up with the innovative idea of introducingthe multi-tier darshan system. Even though the viability of the new conceptremains to be established, it is being seen as a suitable alternative at least for the time being. Simultaneously, the management has been experimenting with the idea for the past few days to ascertain its efficacy.

According to the new application, devotees will be allowed in two lines for darshan from the silver gate (Vendi Vakili) into the sanctum sanctorum through the Bangaru Vakili. While one row of devotees will beallowed to walk on the high-rise wooden ramps speciallydesigned to suit the purpose, the second row of devotees will be allowed to pass through the floor.

This high rise wooden ramp is available in some Shiva temples. Those walking on the ramp get good darshan and prasad. Fee paying devotees are only a gfew feet closer.

TTD’s three-tier darsan system offers a lasting solution - The Hindu

Surging crowd at the temple of Lord Venkateswara nomore a troublesome issue

The sustained efforts of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) management in finding a lasting solution to the surging crowd at the temple of Lord Venkateswara finally seems to have paid off in the form of three-tier darshan system.

Increasing complaints about the cramped queue lines and devotees being pushed inside the temple during darshan prodded the authorities to find a solution to the problem. And after several experiments, the TTD decided to have a three-tier darsan system that is said to suit the temple needs best.

The intention is to use the vertical space available inside the sanctum sanctorum in a best possible manner given the built-in constraints the ancient temple has.

Pilgrims in three lines will be allowed to enter the sanctum sanctorum from the silver gate (Vendi Vakili). While devotees in the first line will be made to walk on a 17-inch elevated wooden pedestal from the Bangaru Vakili (golden gate), the second line will have the devotees walking on the pedestal at the height of 8 to 9 inch from the ground. The third line of pilgrims will walk on the floor.

Thank you Krish Sir. :)

Got the Rs. 501/ ticket and h
ad a very good dharshan at Kamakya temple within 30 minutes! Beautiful hillock and drive at high speed

by an auto was exciting too! Visited Kalimpong, Shillong and Kokata also. Wish to write in 'payaNak ka(vi)thaigaL' if time permits.

I have to take care of my mom and she demand much of my free time! :)

Good initiative IMO.

The news report says that this three tier
system which was experimented repeatedly, not just warranties a proper Darshan but saves the devotees from awkward pushing and jostling – an act the temple staff frequently indulge in.

Going by this report, I hope this new arrangement of three tiers Dharshan will prove to be a great relief to the ever increasing devotees.

Only a personal experience will establish the improved hassle free dharshan.

Read somewhere:

“If the Road is rough
And the journey steep,
If you find it hard
The pace to keep,
Don’t give up !

If you seem to loose
When you, ought to win,
If the feeling comes
That you must give in,
Don’t give up !

If all the world

Seems hard, unjust-
Keep close to God
And in Him trust,
Don’t give up ! “

Hassle-free darshan now a reality at Tirumala temple - The Hindu

The pushing and jostling by devotees to have a glimpse of Lord Venkateswara has been all too notorious and the ‘Jaragandi… Jaragandi’ (meaning ‘Please move’) by the staff and volunteers is a ubiquitous cry. Things started falling in place and a semblance of order is in the process of being restored after the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Executive Officer M.G. Gopal decided to make use of the ‘vertical space’ available before the sanctum sanctorum.

It was on May 29 that the three-layer system was formally introduced in the temple to see if it could mitigate the woes of the devotees. The idea was simple. The available space before the deity was divided into three queue lines at varying heights. The first row was raised with the help of a wooden plank measuring 16 inches high, the second at 7 inches and the third at the floor level. This way, the authorities ensured that pilgrims could get closer to the shrine in three parallel rows, without a devotee obstructing the view of those behind him/her. While it all boils down to the number of devotees provided darshan at the end of a day, this new system proved successful even on this front. “In providing a jostling-free darshan to the public, we were even prepared to compromise on the number, but surprisingly, the number of devotees who had darshan in the new system is marginally high”, Mr. Gopal said.

A comparative study of the number of pilgrims who had darshan in June 2013 and June 2014 (after the three-layer system was introduced) presented a rosy picture. While 20.82 lakh pilgrims were provided darshan in June 2013 it rose to close to 21 lakhs in June 2014. “That means, an additional 12,991 devotees had darshan this month under the new system”, Mr. Gopal said.

I have just returned to mumbai[ I wanted to experience the rain which I was missing] and went to shirdhi and nasik.

In shirdhi they do excellent crowd management. sr. citizen get special passes .and darshan in fifteen minutes.no jostling , pushing etc. similar good experience in siddhi vinayak temple in mumbai. volunteers really take care of senior citizen and ladies .separate queues for them. it was festival time in mumbai yet I got vip treatment.others can learn how to manage vulnerable people in temples.
another interesting info. in kalaram [called kala as it is in black stone] temple on godavari banks near rambhan in nasik where kumbhamela is held , the kovil archakas are only middle aged ladies . they manage the show pretty well. the premises are kept clean by cleaners all ladies. south indian temples can learn from them
