Thiruchendur Shanmuga Stotram
By Adhi Shankara
Translated by P.R.Ramachander

(Adhi Shankara was affected by the evil chants of Abhinava Guptha, when he was staying in the temple of Thiruchendur (Holy city of sandal) which is in the sea shore. He composed the”Subramany Bhujanga stotra” as well as The “Shanmuga sthothram” and got rid of the evil effects of the chant.)

Naradadhi deva yogi brunda hrud nikethanam,
Barhivaryavahamindu shekareshta nandanam,
Bhakthaloka roga dukha papa sanga banjanam,
Bhavayami sindhu theera vasinam, Shadananam.

I bow before that six faced one,
Who lives in the shore of the ocean,
Who lives in the hearts of divine ages like Narada,
Who rides on a peacock,
Who is the son of He who collected the crescent,
And who destroys diseases, sorrow and sin,
Of all his world of devotees.

Chandra chandanadhi sheethalanga mathma bhavitham,
Yaksha sidha kinnaradhi mukhya divya poojitham,

I bow before that six faced one,
Who lives in the shore of the ocean,
Who is the killer of Tharaka who is,
Worshipped by Indra and other chief devas,
Who is being anointed by sandal paste and
Is as cool as the moon,
Who can be considered as our soul,
And who is being worshipped by chief of devas,
Like Yakshas, Siddhas and Kinnaras.

Champakabhja malathee sumatdhi malya bhooshitham,
Divya shad kireeda hara kundaldhyalangrutham,
Kumkumadhi yuktha divya ganda bhanga lepitham,
Bhavayami sindhu theera vasinam, shadananam.

I bow before that six faced one,
Who lives in the shore of the ocean,
Who is being decorated by garlands,
Made out of flowers like champaka and jasmine,
Who is decorated by the six holy crowns,
And six garlands and global ear drops,
And who is being anointed by a mixture,
Of saffron and holy sandal wood paste.

Asrithakhileshta loka rakshanamarangripam,
Shakthipanimachyuthendra padma smbhavadhipam,
Sishtaloka chinthithatha sidhi Dana lolupam,
Bhavayami sindhu theera vasinam, Shadananam.

I bow before that six faced one,
Who lives in the shore of the ocean,
Who is being depended by eight elephants,
Which protect the world,
Who holds the spear as a weapon,
Who is being praised by Vishnu,
Indra and Lord Brahma,
And who helps his devotees,
To fulfill their wants they think about.

Veerabahu poorvakoti veerasangha soukyadam,
Soora padma mukhya lakshakoti soora mukthidham,
Indra poorva devasangha sidha nithya soukhyadham,
Bhavayami sindhu theera vasinam, Shadananam.

I bow before that six faced one,
Who lives in the shore of the ocean,
Who joined Verabahu with billions of soldiers,
And gave salvation to Soora padma,
Who fought with his millions of billions soldiers,
And provided permanent comfort to Indra and other devas.

Jamba vairo kaminee manoradhapi poorvakam,
Kumbha sambhavaya sarva dharma Sara dayakam,

I bow before that six faced one,
Who lives in the shore of the ocean,
Who fulfilled the wishes of Indra who was,
The enemy of asura called Jamba,
Who gave the essence of all Dharmas,
To sage Agasthya who was born out of a pot,
And who has prevented me from,
Travails of the ocean of day to day life.

Poornachandra bimbakoti thulya vakthra pankajam,
Varnaneeya sacharithra mishasidhi dhayakam,
Swarnavarna gathramugra sidha loka sikshakam,
Bhavayami sindhu theera vasinam, Shadananam.

I bow before that six faced one,
Who lives in the shore of the ocean,
Who has lotus like face which,
Is similar to billions of moons,
Who grants all that they desire,
To those who describe his holy story,
Who is of a strong body with a golden color,
And who punishes all cruel people.

Poorva janam sanchithaga sanga bhanga thathparam,
Sarva dharma dhanakarma poorva punya sidhitham,
Sarva shathru sanga bhanga dakshamindra jaapatheem,
Bhavayami sindhu theera vasinam, shadananam.

I bow before that six faced one,
Who lives in the shore of the ocean,
Who destroys crowds of sins,
Of many previous births,
Who makes available the blessings,
Of good deeds and charity done in previous births,
Who destroys the crowds of our enemies,
And who is the son in law of Indra.
