A month's quota of 30 tablets of Atorvastatin costs 300+ UDS!!!
It is not a life saving drug but one used to keep cholesterol level within safe limits.
I had always wondered why here the prescription medicines are so costly.
I got the answer from a news item yesterday by mere chance.
The people should get back at least 80 % of what they contribute to the Health Insurance.
So the only way to hoard the excess money collected and not returned it to the insurers is
to charge astronomically for the drugs and try to prove that all the money had been used up. :(
What must have started as a welfare project, does take care of the welfare of you-know-who!

In German 'ausgaben' means 'outgoing' or 'given out'!

So the homework given to the students is called 'Ausgaben'.

But the Ausgaben becomes a Raus-gaben when the kids

do not do their homework until the day it falls due!

Result... lack of sleep, tention to parents and

one grumpy day for the whole family! :(

I often wonder whether is truth in the Tamil saying

"Vaidhyar piLLai sickku!

VAdhyAr piLLai makku!

German is a sweet sounding language.

I love the word 'Regenbogen which' is
as attractive as 'The Rainbow' it actually means.

The simple 'backpack' becomes the 'Rucksack'.
I am on the lookout for more such rhyming words
where the two parts of the same word rhyme so well! :)

Teachers teach (only?) for money... not just now but from time immemorial!

Dronacharya demanded the right thumb of Ekalaivan's hand as his guru dakshiNa-
when he learned that the humble hunter had learned all the finest techniques of archery
just by worshipping the moorthi of guru Dronacharya -
even though he himself had not taught the hunter anything in person.

I know people who pay a four figure fee for a Skype music class in India.
I know the teacher who teaches the ArOhaNam in one class and charge ** $ for that!

This way a simple VarNam will need 12 or more classes to be completed
and the teacher can earn 500+ $ from a single student for a single item!

Nothing wrong in making a living out of one's artistic talents but I wish
they also have a spark of conscience in addition to their artistic ability !

சொந்தப் பணியாற்றும் வல்லமை பெற்றனரோ;

எல்லோருக்கும் தியானத்துக்கு உகந்ததோ;

இந்த உலகத்தின் காரணம் என்கிறார்களோ;

அந்தப் பராசக்தியை; உலகின் அன்னையை;

இந்த உலகைப் படைத்துக் காத்து அழிக்கிறாளோ;

சொந்த முயற்சியால் சிவனை அடைந்தாளோ;

பாதங்களை இதயத்திலும் சிவன் சுமக்கிறாரோ;

The mesmerising Ragam Basanth Bahar is rendered equally beautifully by both the artists.

While the singer needs so much abhinayam to get her gamakas right in her 'kural'

the child prodigy violinist brings out them with in his 'viral' with just a trace of smile in his face.

Proof for the sterling fact that "Talent does NOT depend on the age

but the inherent gnaanam and hardwork of the artists.

What men call gallantry, and Gods adultery,
Is much more common where the climate is sultry.

Let us have wine and women, mirth and laughter,
Sermons and soda water, the day after.

Quotes by Lord Byron

"Let there be light!" said God,"and there was light!"
"Let there be blood!" says man, and there's a sea!

And after all, what is a lie?"Tis but
The truth in masquerade.

"Tis strange the mind, that very fiery particle,
Should let itself by snuffed out by an article.

Quotes by Lord Byron.

Learning a new language does brighten the mind and brain.
I can already visualize different parts of my brain glowing
like the disco dancers' platform of multi colored lights! :)
I bet you must have seen it in some Hindi movie or a Tamil movie!

The marriage beuro circulated the horoscopes of eligible boys and girls.
But once they get married, their horoscopes must be removed from circulation.
But many unscrupulous owners of the beuro keep circulating the horoscopes.

Imagine the shock of the boy/ girl who had paid not only for the horoscope
but also to the astrologer to get it verified for a match with his/ her own
finds out that the party has already got married and has one or two offsprings!

Maha Vishnu is supposed be in an all-knowing-sleep/ nap.
In Tamil it is called as aRithuyil - knowing everything even while appearing to be asleep.

Modern Technology has made Maha Vishnu out of every the old man lying on bed all day long dozing off and on - since he has nothing better to do anyway!

Like has Vishnu carrying a Conch and a Discus, these old men also carry two important things.

An-all-knowing Smart watch in one wrist and the smart phone with Whatsapp in the other.

The only thing he can hear day and night and while sleeping would be the notification alert!

Even Poor Lakshmi Devi would feel left out - but for doing 'paadha sevai' to her Lord.

I have suffered a lot during my Hostel-life for ~ 8 years - for want of water.

Many times I may not get a bathroom to bathe. :(

If I get a bathroom, I may not get enough water to bathe! :(

I still remember how I used to manage an oil bath and body wash in <10 litres of water! :(

Coimbatore is known for its cool climate and water scarcity.

The first time I carried water filled gatam (kudam ) is after I got married! :(

So the point is that I can't bear the sound of water being wasted by anyone, anywhere, anytime.

After learning about the prospect of many countries having to do without water in the future,
my intolerance to wastage of water has got magnified.

When unable to change the persons who need to change
I think I must change myself - in order to survive without blowing a fuse!

I ALMOST blew a fuse today morning! :(

Wasting water is bad enough!

Wasting boiling hot water is atrocious!

We are wasting water and power!

Some people just stand under the hot shower like a statue
until their bloodstream reaches the same temperature as the water.

The best way to wash greens is to keep them dipped in water bowl
with a pinch of turmeric and a little salt for a few minutes.

All the visible and invisible insects will be removed silently.

We just need a little water in the cooker enough to build the pressure with steam.
There is no need to N litres of water to boil potatoes/ cook rice/ make idlis.
This will waste power, water and also delay the cooking time.

Everything except man is becoming smarter and smarter as days roll by!
Man can afford to become less-smart since he has all the more-smart-things at his disposal!

No need to wash leaf after leaf in a Niagara of steaming water!

Today's link to the blog with an introduction.

The invisible mode of collecting money is actually very visible!

To avoid paying an exorbitant tax for selling an elephant Tenali Raman thought of a clever pan. He sold his cat for the prize of an elephant and his elephant was given away as a 'free gift' to the buyer. The original inventor of the now popular scheme "Buy one ...Take home two!"

Tenali Raman got his money and did not have to pay any tax since he did not sell the elephant but sold only a cat!

Money is needed for temple renovation. People would willingly part with money and make heavy donations - if the purpose is really noble.

But one or more brilliant minds have come up with a plan to charge for the pooja the amount a person will be expected to donate towards the renovation.

Tenali Raman's plan worked very well. But I doubt the success of this plan. Who will pay a **** sum for flowers for Devi and prasadham for a dozen ladies who will be attending the Dasara pooja?
