Today I read an article in the Hindu?? In it the author K.N Panikkar argues that there is a need to promote value education albeit with an emphasis on secular values totally divorced from religion. What an idiot. And to emphasize his point, he makes the remark that "Faith in religious universalism, which is central to secularism, alone can bring about a harmonious relation between religions". What horse shit and hogwash. A case of bad and worst mixed with aplomb. The oxford dictionary of secularism is adjective 1 not religious, sacred, or spiritual. 2 (of clergy) not subject to or bound by religious rule. 3 Astronomy denoting slow changes in the motion of the sun or planets. 4 Economics (of a fluctuation or trend) occurring or persisting over an indefinitely long period. What is unclear to me is which meaning the author refers to. Apparently the author is quite unfamiliar with the usage in the Queen's English.
