My aged father died in Apr-2023 (Pradhamai Thithi) while my aged mother is still alive. I'm their only child and did the Unamasikam, Masikam and Varushapthigam on respective timelines.
I was initially told I should not start the monthly Amavasai Tharpanams & the annual Mahalaya Paksha Tharpanam, as long as my mother is still alive. So based on that advice, I had Rice & Vazhakai dhanam done yesterday at the start of Mahalaya Paksham.
But various article I read about Mahalaya Paksham in the internet state it is very important to perform Mahalaya Paksha Tharpanam, even if mother is alive. So requesting inputs to clear my confusion.

- When should a Kartha start Amavasai Tharpanam and Mahalaya Paksha Tharpanam?
- If Mahalaya Paksha Tharpanam is to done by me this year - (given that 2 of the 16 days & especially Pradhamai is already over) - which day(s) should I now plan to do in this year?
