The devastanam Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, is located at Yadagiri Gutta (Yadagiri hillock) in the Nalgonda district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is believed that Lord Narasimha Swamy was worshiped even by the sages and rushis.

In the Indian mythological lore the region of Yadagiri Gutta finds mention as Rushi Aradhana Kshetram or the place of worship for sages. Lord Narasimha is popularly believed by his devotees to provide cure for many chronic and terminal ailments. Furthermore, he is believed to ward off evil spirits.

In Skanda Purana, one of the famous 18 puranas, there exists a detailed account of the origin of this temple. It is believed that the son of Sri Rushyashrunga Maharshi, Sri Yada Maharshi performed great penance for Lord Narasimha Swamy in a cave on a hill between Bhongir and Raigiri, after seeking blessings from Lord Hanuman. The Lord was pleased and after blessing the maharshi appeared five avatharas called the Sri Jwala Narasimha, Sri Yogananda Narasimha, Sri Ugra Narasimha, Sri Gandaberunda Narasimha and Sri Lakshmi Narasimha. The avataras later manifested themselves into exquisitely sculpted forms at Yadagiri Gutta. Therefore, the region of Yadagiri Gutta is also known as Pancha Narasimha Kshetram.

As per another legend Lord Vishnu was very pleased with the penance of Yada Maharshi. He sent Lord Hanuman to guide the rishi to a holy spot, and appeared before him in the form of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy. The spot today is marked by a temple the base of the Yadagiri Gutta. Yada Maharshi worshiped the Lord for many years there.

After Yada Maharshi attained moksha the local tribals took upon themselves to carry out the worship. However, due to their lack of knowledge they engaged in improper way of worship. As a result, Lord Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy moved into to the hills. One day the Lord appeared in a devout lady’s dream and directed her to a large cavern where he appeared in all his five majestic Avatars.

Lord Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy is supposed to fulfill the wishes of his devotees. As per the desire of his ardent devotee Bhakta Prahlada, Lord Vishnu appeared out of a pillar to kill the father of Prahlada, Hiranya Kashyapa.

Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple of Yadagiri Gutta opens at 04:00 AM every morning and closes at 09:30 PM in the evening. All through the day various archanas and sevas are performed at regular intervals. The worship at this temple is performed according to Pancharatna Agamam. The procedure of worship was established by the former Sthanacharya Late Sri Vangeepuram Narasimhacharyulu, who also composed thee Yadagiri Suprabhatam.

The temple is located approximately 70 km from the city of Hyderabad, AP. The temple town is very well connected by road and rail network, and has good facilities for accommodation in various tariff ranges.
