Budget airline SpiceJet has pledged to supply 71,500 liters of water every day to residents of 11 villages in Latur district for a month to help them tide over severe water scarcity during the ongoing drought situation in Maharashtra.
The airline in partnership with the voluntary organization "AnybodyCanHelp" will organise, coordinate and execute the supply of water across Ausa Taluka in Latur, it said in a statement.
Under the initiative, water tankers braced with SpiceJet logo will undertake the exercise for the whole of the month till 23 June 2016. This initiative is part of SpiceJet’s 11th anniversary celebrations. The airline started operations in May 2005.
Sonal Shah Kamdar, Convener, AnybodyCanHelp said, “We would like to thank SpiceJet for coming forward to support this noble cause. It is a great gesture, and a great source of inspiration for the others to be involved in activities of similar nature.”
Ajay Singh, CMD SpiceJet, said, “The initiative makes this anniversary very special for all of us at SpiceJet.”
