BRAHMA-MUHURTHA
The time early in the morning one and half hours before sunrise This time of the day is recommended for all practices of yoga and is considered apt for meditation.During this time one will be able to effortlessly enter in to a state of higher consciousness. According to Rishi Sushrut, this time is also called as NECTAR TIME as it is best for offering prayers to god. Atharva Veda mentions that this time is good for remaining healthy and away from diseases.

It is recommended by all the old sages and teachers in the yoga tradition, especially in the Bhakti or devotional schools, that even if one is not living in an ashram, if one is serious about a yoga-based lifestyle, one should be awake and performing some spiritual activity during the brahma-muhurta.

Shri Narasimhan,

Braahma muhoorta is from 4-24 to 5-12 A.M. if the sunrise is at 6-00 A.M. sharp. The next muhoorta called samudrama which extends from 5-12 A.M. to 6-00 A.M. is not extolled in any of our scriptures AFAIK. Many people die during the brAhma muhoorta even when the attending medicos had the impression that those patients (especially in the ICUs) were responding well to the treatment and were hopeful of their complete recovery.

Hence all this eulogization about brAhmamuhoorta is all kind of hogwash, imo. The fact is that in tropical areas and northern latitudes, it is wiser to get up as early as possible so thatone can reduce exposure to the sweltering heat AFAP. Hence people in North India like Kashi, Allahabad etc., can be seen getting up by 4 or 4-30 A.M. and taking bath in cold water by 5 A.M. There is no demonstrable effect of perfor, ing anything spiritual during braahma muhoorta. And if you are referring to the bottled variety spiritual, it is definitely bad for your health.

Early morning is the time when growth harmones work well. Also that is a very good time for exercises since the air is crisp and fresh.

Cheers!
