Should we discuss EVR's diatribes against Brahmins in our forum

this is what NARA is also citing all along, asking people to do an introspection and find the answer to this Why? Why this century long hatred, and the graph is moving up tangentially, with no sign of plummeting?

Shiv, with all due respect, I think the Brams have done far too much introspection. we need to assert ourselves politically & economically. Meek will always perish - nature's way !!

I will be the first to lead the march against caste discrimination by any Brahmin hand in hand with our dalit brothers, but I will also strongly condemn this "reverse discrimination". I am sure most if not all the Brahmins will do the same !!

In these teaching sessions the children are told that they belong to a community among christians which is unique with a unique culture and value system which they should never compromise. They are also taught the pitfalls which they may encounter in their work life like falling in love with boys/girls from other communities and religions etc and how to avoid getting into such nasty situations. They are taught by the Doctors that at their age love is just pheromones, hormones and a lot of imagination. They are taught by psychiaatrists how to look at themselves standing aside to understand the emotions that drive them at any moment to get a clear understanding of their emotions. My friends say that this has helped many young men and women to remain good syrian christians. They marry within their community, avoid emotional upheavels and discord in the family and are successful in their life. Can brahmins try some such thing to preserve their unique culture and value system? I am addressing this to you because you have raised a point about the bringing up of children. I would not address this to those who have settled down outside India where they have different kind of compulsions and may have to necessarily marry others. But in India this can work. We (the brahmins) have no malice or hatred towards any one but we would like to live our lives peacefully and happily within our domain. We will determine what to do for that and no one else has any locus standi to tell us how we should change or disappear from the scene as a community.

This is a fantastic suggestion...We should plan the nittygritties & start these classes immediately...We should involve the parents first & spread this message...We need to device a curriculum and identify volunteers who can be the faculty for this...These classes would definitely help the community to meet the challenges of modern life without compromising tradition...The more we delay more is the harm that gets inflicted on the community...This would help the brahmins to come out their own cocoons, face the challenges in the world and move forward....

Introspection-yes. Hanging our head in shame and accepting the blame for centuries of atrocities committed by every caste joining together-No. The member you have mentioned demands the later and that is why all this argument though he packages it in the language of introspection for the purpose of presentation. The community doing introspection is a continuous process and it has come a long way with many reforms in its history due to developments in science and technology and the march of time. The century long continuing hatred if it is there is because of envy, that raw emotion which can cause havoc. It is a given fact that brahmins score handsomely in whichever field they work. The community's contribution to humanity is disproportionately high in comparison with its numbers. This naturally leave a trail of envy and heartburn which eventually gets converted into hatred when a Hitler like maniac manipulator comes on the political scene. Now how do we handle this? In behavioral science there is a method of handling an individual who enters into a transaction with you from a rebellious child ego state when you are in an adult ego state. Keep your cool and continue to speak and behave as an adult. And keep your fingers crossed.

I feel in this forum there is a lot of "insecurity" about things which do not apparently glorify brahmins. Reality stares at all of us, including our children and it is there for everyone to see (and experience) that brahmins as a class have become extremely marginalized and inconsequential in the present day India. In this respect, even this very forum with its name tamilbrahmins.com may look laughable for many NBs who stumble upon this site!

It is therefore necessary that we discuss what EVR told about brahmins and, more important than that, why he told such things. I have seen some past discussions on this topic and in all of them, the immediate reaction to any mention of EVR is like he is a demon or rAkshasa and, as scripture-believing brahmins, we will expect the god to take one more avataara and undo whatever harm EVR has caused to brahmin hegemony. Such an attitude is not good, imho. Let us learn what EVR told about brahmins, what made him say those things and see whether some change in brahmin attitude to society is desirable.

Are you surprised? This is a brahmins forum; they should feel insecure about things that don't glorify their community. I don't know about others, personally I welcome this reaction. I sincerely hope this feelings develop further so that they can formulate a plan to counter charlatans. By the way, brahmin community was marginalised all the time. It is not new.

Living peacefully and happily may not possible if others show hatred against one's community. Say, for example 'Amish' community wants to live on their own. They don't even use electricity, telephone, car or anything... there is hatred even towards that community. Sometimes a community has to develop strategies just to stay in peace.

We will determine what to do for that and no one else has any locus standi to tell us how we should change or disappear from the scene as a community.

Personally I feel, brahmin community has not done much to determine what to do. They have to unite first and workout a plan. All the other communities are united and they have the vote bank power too. Brahmin community is neither united nor have the vote bank power. They have to change that equation.

I am aware of the counselling camps for their youngsters amoung Jehovah Witnesses. I know about Syrian Christians, did not know about the details of their counselling camps.

Can brahmins try some such thing to preserve their unique culture and value system? I am addressing this to you because you have raised a point about the bringing up of children.

Thanks for bringing this up. I don't live in India. But I know very well, such camps will help the youngsters of the community. Such camps are conducted in other communities too. Once I was spending the whole day in Chennai city with my friend; he excused himself for 2 hours to attend a community meeting.... I was not allowed entry to that meeting! (That never bothered me; he came back after the meeting and we continued enjoying ourselves). So, such meetings are not to be dismissed; they are very effective.

I am a humanist. I care for anyone and everyone, when ever possible. I am more than happy to participate in such an effort. I met some of the youngsters during my recent trip; they are hungry for directions. This kind of effort will certainly take off amoung youngsters.

In this situation, the best option for Brams is NOT to stand up & fight with these guys. It will only make the situation worse.

we need to do what exactly the jews have done - Unite, Organise, Money, Power - Leverage them & control all aspects of the society - banks, money markets, political funding, news, etc.. so that we can shut all these crapping mouths !!

There is nothing wrong in this...North India politics is controlled by the Vaishya-Baniyas who control the levers of power through money power, funding parties, controlling all the major businesses and news channels...The future elections are going to fought by power of media & money...Unless you control them you cannot win...That is the hard reality.
