putthandu starts on the day of uttara-ayanam,in some brahmin tamizh families.technically my new year started on dec21/22 of 2008,in gregorian calendar.but here is wishing you and rest of forum memebers happy majority tamizh putthandu vazhthukkal.

That was an eye-opener. I din't know that it can differ from family to family. Can you elaborate on this and explain the concept in detail?
