[h=1]Punjab daily wager finds Rs 1crore in a/c he never knew he had[/h]LUDHIANA: A daily-wage labourer from Ferozepur in Punjab got the shock of his life recently when he was asked to pay Rs 40 lakh as income tax. A staggering sum for most of the country's population,it was particularly outrageous for someone who earned no more than Rs 8,000 a month.
The tax, he was told, had been computed on the Rs 1 crore he had deposited in his bank account.It was a fair point, but for the fact that the labourer in question didn't have a bank account, and had never had one either.
