The Perungalur is in the Pudukottai - Thanjavur road. I have visited the temple and
it takes an hour or so by road. I am aware of this temple Goddess Mangalambika Sametha
Lord Malaiappan Swami. Here Sri Mangalambika is very famous and a number of couples
who do not have child visit this temple. Being the family Deity, certain rituals are followed.
The aithegam of this temple is that the family has to go to the pond behind the temple first
going though a Banyan tree with Lord Vigneswarar sitting underneath the tree.
I have seen people taking a dip in the pond, and proceed towards the Vigneswarar and
pray him first. Some light a Vilakku and show Camphor to the Lord and brake a Coconut
to fulfill their desires. Only after this, devotees proceed towards south of the village
and then go to the temple to worship the famous Lord Adisesha and Nav-Kanya.
Here again a pond is available from where one has to fetch 3 types of water, just like
Rameshwaram in wells and the family members take a bath again. Once this formality
is over i.e. after visiting Adisesha and Nav-kumari/kanya Deities, the family members
proceed to Lord Karupanna Swamy. After worshiping here, devotees at last proceed
to Malaiappa Swamy and Goddess Mangalambigai. Here also family members, like
Sri Mathurakali Amman Temple, Siruvachur, MAV-VILLUKKU is offered to the Goddess
-i.e. light the lamp in the specially prepared rice powder with jaggery to Goddess Mangalambigai.
In Shri Mathurakali Amman Temple, Siruvachur, Mav-Vilakku Powder is prepared within the temple
after the ladies take bath in the temple premises. I enjoyed my trip to this temple.
