NEW DELHI: Passengers flying into India will have to declare Indian currency exceeding Rs 10,000 being brought by them, according to new customs rules which will be implemented from next month.

Besides, they will also be asked to declare number of baggage, including hand baggage, while entering into India, said the new rules notified by the finance ministry.

According to new rules under Customs Baggage Declaration (Amendment) Regulations, 2014, an Indian citizen would need to fill up the immigration form only when he or she goes out of the country. There will be no immigration form for Indian citizens returning from abroad.

The regulations will be implemented from March 1, said a notification issued on February 10 by the finance ministry.

All passengers coming to India will be filling up a new 'Indian Customs Declaration Form' which will seek details that will be different from the detachable perforated strip which is a part of the immigration card at the moment.

The 'Indian Customs Declaration Form' carries additional fields for declaration of dutiable and prohibited goods, which will help authorities in checking customs duty frauds and keep a record of gold jewellery and bullion being brought into the country, customs officials said.

For the first time, travellers would be asked to specifically declare any prohibited articles, gold jewellery (over free allowance), gold bullion and Indian currency exceeding Rs 10,000 in the new form, they said.

A passenger will have to give details of countries visited in the past six days and mention the passport number on the new form, which was not there earlier.

Old fields like declaration of satellite phone, foreign currency exceeding $5,000 or equivalent, aggregate value of foreign exchange including currency exceeding $10,000 or equivalent, meat, meat products, dairy products, fish or poultry products and seeds, plants, fruits, flowers and other planting material have been retained in the new format.

The passengers will also have to give details of baggage, including hand baggage, being carried by them in a separate column on the form.

The country has 19 international airports in Srinagar, Amritsar, Jaipur, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Guwahati, Nagpur, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Goa, Bangalore, Chennai, Calicut, Coimbatore, Tiruchirapalli, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram and Port Blair.

This is also today's news; green card can be purchased for Rs. 3 crores!

Ok, what the relation of your post to the OP?
IN US this option has always has been on the books. If you invest $500,000 in Rural section or $1,000,000 in urban section and generate 10 jobs you are automatically guaranteed 4 green card. You have to show the source of capital.

There is a US Building company with offices in South Africa and Bombay. They build a 50-100 room hotel costing $500,000 -$1,000,000. They sell it to Rich people with children with not much educations (that can qualify of H1 visa) for say 2M-$4M. This company takes 1/2M-1M down payment and finances the rest $1.5m- $3m at a rate of 10-11%. They can not build hotels fast enough. They help with getting green card and advertise in SA and Mumbai.

So your figure of Rs. 3Cr is in line.

I have a friend in Asian Hotel group who used this company to get Green card for his son, who only had a high school education in Surat. It is all legal

you know PJ sir
when every country is making travel simpler ,indian govt makes it hard to travel . first in the name of curbing gold imports ,they release a set of rules .
these makes getting gold by passenger returning from abroad attractive.
then they make another set of rules to discourage passengers getting gold from abroad. I do not know how many ladies will hide their thaalis while returning from abroad to avoid /evade duty
there are a lot of ladies who take jewellery abroad when they go attend marriages and similar functions. now they will look like street beggars avoiding gold jewellery and wearing artificial only. . any govt that works against ladies love for gold cannot last.
you know customs do not have valuers for gold in delhi. they take your jewellery and send it to a central office for assessment. further harssment of passengers. and further scope forcorruption . where will it all end

Relation?

Both are related to money and transfer of money into a country. Different countries may have different rules. Decades ago, one million dollar investment in USA was sufficient to get citizenship. In india, for bangladeshis, it is between 500 and 5000 rupees to get a ration card and voter id card.

Every country has a ceiling on the amount of local currency one can bring in person. It is now rs. 10000 in india? How much dollar currency one can legally take into america, say after landing in newyork? I think there is a limit in every country.

Perhaps the word 'bought' has given you the impression that it is illegal, even though it was not implied in the post, or in the news report.
