Traveling on Bus foot board is dangerous

Youth at Risk - Whom to be blamed..?[RED PIX] - YouTube

young School going boys often travel on foot board on the bus, and as they alight from the bus before it stops, they may slip and come under the rear wheel of the bus.

Recently A Class X boy, travelling on an MTC bus footboard was on Friday fatally run over by the vehicle near Palavakkam after he slipped and came under its wheels. He was going to school in the bus.

Although Chennai City Police are taking preventive acts on such Students, it is the duty of every School Teacher and Parents to impress upon these young children to understand the enormity of risks by traveling on Bus foot board.
Students say said that, there is no enough bus facility for them to travel and reach school and college on time and it is the lack bus facility push them to take such a big risk.

Will the authorities run more School Specials during School Hours ( morning and evening ) in every Locality?

It is considered the "IN" thing to travel on footboards .many school and college students resort to it to impress the peer groups and girls. this is an idea promoted by tamil films. most parents have a tough time educating their children on safer travel . I have had a tough time to impresss on my boy to ride safely in bus when in school and biking in college. now he is a working professionel I lecture him on safe driving of cars ! are we overdoing it.?

Sri.Krish Sir

It is our duty to caution our Children ( whatever may be their age) about safe driving!!

In those days when i was going to School by walking , my parents used to caution me about how I should cross the Road!!

Nowadays with more transport on the road, going by any mode of transport, one has to be more careful.

Sometimes it is not intentional; you just have to travel on the footboard. The buses are so crowded that you cannot enter in and to avoid being late, there is then no option but to cling on.

When I was in college, I had to do this on numerous occasions and on a couple of those, policemen in the name of controlling the habit mercilessly used the lathi. We scrambled in madly causing much inconvenience to those inside.

I think apart from parents and teachers, Govt. has a role to play in preventing such incidents. One simple way would be to introduce doors that auto close thus immediately avoiding the mishap. Another would be to place a meter that cuts down the engine whenever the bus is overloaded. I am sure there would be other better alternatives, but there has to be the intention first.

The frequency of buses in a particular route is another issue..In peak hours more number of buses should be deployed to manage the rush..But what do in lean period..The buses will be idle..May be Government is not providing sufficient number of buses as it becomes unprofitable...But profit should not be the motto..It should be welfare..May be Government takes private vehicles on hire during peak periods..

Why can't they allow private operators to share the routes and load as in tiruchy. Private and public transport companies thrive, and even compete by skipping one stop and rushing to the next to catch the crowd. Overloading can be avoided only if there are more buses.

Putting doors and closing before start will not work, I think.

more buses will definitely help .most cities bought buses under JNURM .private bus experiment failed in delhi. they were called killer blue line buses
they were known for rash driving, overloading ,poor conduct of conducters and drivers. molesting of women was common place in these buses.metro could become a good option. chennai and bangalore should fast track these projects to give relief to commuters

Whatever might be the reason, traveling on Bus foot Board is not a great idea!! Life is to be taken seriously and one should not take any risk whatsoever at any time.

one can be late to School, college, office but should not become Mr.Late So and so

Yes, more Buses, ( provided the Roads are broader and separate lane for it ), Closing doors, other types of equally cheap transports like mini Buses, will go a long way to ease the crowd on Buses.

scheduling of school and office timings can help.in delhi buses are made available to schools early morning nd afternoon . govt offices are scheduled in in two general shifts starting 9.15 and 10.45 . Metros with feeder mini buses have contributed safe comfortable travel. heavy vehicle are kept off the road during daytime and allowed after 9pm.lane driving got introduced during CWG though not strictly followed
govt should conduct safety lessons for public transort workers with penalty for non observance.of safety measures.
parents should protest . other wise they will not be heard
