sorry for the spate of thread openings. this is one video that i thought many members here, who are thinking of building a home, might find useful. particularly when you find out that the whole house from scratch to finish can be done in 30 days flat.

it is a technique developed in iit madras. if not anything else, it is an enjoyable 20 minutes

Very good.
Wish they will adopt this technique, of green building. This reduces time and cost. And is probably safe from termites.

Did you hear them saying they use fly ash as filler?
Here in states it is banned in most of the states as fly ash has high level of Arsenic, and other metals. TVA and other electricity producers are sitting on mountain of fly ash, that they can not safely dispose off. Secondly they were not wearing any protective clothing working with the dust (gypsum & Glass fibre) which will be deposited in the lungs. Oh well, I suppose what they don't know will (not!!!) hurt them.:nono:

Crystalline silica and lime are toxic when inhaled. Crystalline silica can cause pneumonia, lung cancer and silicosis after prolonged exposure. Lime inhalation can cause allergic reactions, sneezing and infection.

hi
i constructed a three storey building in chennai recently.....the project was done tambram builders,,,,but its very tough

labor force now a days.....wages are too much....besides weather problem....initially getting approval a lot of struggles....

besides palm greasing......a lot of energy and patience required....our contract for construction was time was limited...

but it exceeds more than than 3 times of period to finish the project.....sometimes the construction of home is

a nightmare.....but in USA ..well planned and excuted without much hassiles...some they finish the project before time...

some call it as pre fabricated in USA...still system works....

Excellent idea. Could you give the cost per Sq.Ft for construction of a house in Bangalore/Chennai.
In Bangalore the construction cost of buildings in conventional methods start from Rs.1,750/- sq.ft.

Brahmanyan,
Bangalore.

dear brahmanyan,

at the end of the video there are credits including two builders. perhaps you could get in touch with them, or through iit madras, contact the professors. i am quite sure they would be able to help you.

best wishes.

The 'model housing apartment', comprising four flats in a two-storeyed building, has been constructed inside the IIT-M campus within a month at a finished cost that works out to Rs. 1250 per sq. ft. (including excellent finishes). The 'GFRG demo building' was inaugurated today by Sri TKA Nair, Advisor to Honourable Prime Minister of India, in the presence of Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthi, Director, IIT Madras.

Fact Box: Glass Fiber Reinforced Gypsum (GFRG) | Current Affairs Today
What is special about GFRG?
 • GFRG is a mineral and will not burn. In addition, the nature of gypsum acts like a thermal regulator when exposed to flame.
 • GFRG is not only incombustible, but it also protects the materials behind it from the heat of the flame for up to two hours.
 • GFRG is relatively light in weight compared to traditional stone or plaster ornaments.
 • Its installation is quick and relatively easy.
 • GFRG can be cast to virtually any shape.
