hiIt’s not even kondey. It’s konthey !
This habit of calling the children ( even girls & boys of 20s and 30s). by the word "Konthey" by elders, is still in vogue among the Tirunelveli TBs.
padichchufying that maglish (MalayALam mixed Tanglish!!) is difficult - more so without the long and short vowels.
May be the members can only talk Tamil but can't read! :ranger:
hirecommend dear members to go to the site and read the other blogs. i have a gut feeling that all these are coming from bombay based second and third generationars. there is a link in facebook and the comments appear to reflect that..as many of the women commenters appear to have north indian last names and yet claim tambram heritage.
the group is called wearetambram and membership can be requested. it is hilarious looking at ourselves with a comic eye.
btw i still call all my children as well as any youngster, including white youngsters, 'kondhay'. it is a term of endearment, and understood as such.
in my family we had only two ambis - ambi and kunjambi.
